You know...

Josh Pastner is a media whore, so all of the writers/broadcasters love the guy, but he is not a good college basketball coach.

Seems like all these guys that worked for Calamari have the philosophy of recruiting ridiculous athletes who A) Have no concept of team basketball B) Run aimlessly wild all over the court and C) Are undisciplined as hell. Pastner may recruit better players than Derek Kellogg, but they both seem to just roll the ball out on the court with no idea what to do next other than just letting the players do whatever the hell they want....other than a frantic press.

St. Louis wiped out Memphis in the NCAA last year and VCU wiped the floor with them last night.

Pasner recruits Memphis heavily, whereas Calipari never did.

I don't know what that has to do with anything, but Calipari was convinced that they needed to recruit outside of Memphis. When he was doing that they won. So, although I don't know what that has to do with anything, I can only conclude that it has something to do with something.

Memphis has started off highly ranked for three years in a row, and fallen off a cliff once the year started. They were playing good ball down the stretch last year, but really fizzled in the NCAA Tournament. I'm always going to take Memphis's preseason ranking with a grain of salt. Until they do something to prove it, I'm just not a believer.
