First action I've been able to see, goxavier.com's all access and tuned in to Mike Schmaltz's fantastic play by play.
They go into the locker room trailer by 5 at the half, 36-31. It's really a pretty even ball game, Michigan has a few more 3 pointers, XU is 4-5 to 0-0 from the free throw line.
Got to see a good taste of the XU defense,,, very aggressive, love S Hawkes, watching her locking down on a point guard nearly a foot taller is pretty impressive.

2nd half a bit rougher for XU, came out a little flat, the size advantage MU had was a bit much. lead was stretched to 13 by the 6 minute mark. Michigan just taking advantage of everything they are given. They have a few less turnovers, a few more offensive boards for second chance shots,
Across the board the stats, percentage wise, are very close, but here's the one that shows the difference. at the 5 minute mark, XU shooting 46% 18-39 and MU shooting 42% BUT 22 OF 52. from 3 point xu 4-9 and MU 7-17. good things come when you get to take a bunch more shots!

X fought back, a steal here, offensive board there, got within 7 at the 1 minute mark, scrappy little team, and coach is taking all she can out of the bench.

62-53 the final,,, crittenden with 13 pts, 6 boards and pachko with 10 points and 8 boards to lead the way.
only real sore spot was FT's 7-15 for the night.

Two things stood out about Michigan- they could shoot and they played a very aggressive 2-3 zone. They had a 6-4 girl who drained three 3’s right off the bat that got them the lead early, and they didn’t let go.
I can’t remember if South Carolina played a zone last year, but at least in terms of the aggressiveness, Michigan’s defense reminded me of that. Despite the 18 turnovers, I thought we handled that aggressiveness much better this year. I do think it wore us down a bit, causing us to miss five straight free throws and give up a couple offensive boards while Michigan pulled away in the middle of the second half.
Overall, it was a good effort, and hopefully we can use this game to figure some things out against High Point and Morehead State and get ready for Duke.
