1200 miles away, and working a volleyball game. Game tracker always sucks early in the season. it's like waiting for the morning paper to get sports info,,,,
Anyway, looking at the box score.
Monster game from Lakeisha Crouch, liked her work last year, love this line 29 mins, 11 points, 12 boards, 2 blocks and a steal.
Overall, Little Ms Hawkes is a loaded stick of dynamite, and Wanninger is showing her ability to score too. Appears to be a fairly well rounded team.
Nice to see good production from the newcomers, Zantt and Crittendon both put in excellent minutes.
Overall, like that the turnovers were limited, field goal percentage in the 20's not great.
From Coach Waugh's facebook
"Our team was faced with some adversity today, and I am very proud of how stuck together and played our hearts out. We will take the win, and know that we need to clean some things up before Monday.
Thanks to all the fans who supported us. We appreciate you, and we hope to see you again on Monday! Let's Go X!"
Sad that the official attendance was only just over a 1000. But I suppose it could be worse, 2 local programs played this evening, NKU at UC, official attendance 798, That is very very sad!

It was a little closer than I would have liked against a team that was 5-25 last year, but I’m not going to complain about a win, especially one without Pachko (didn’t get the story on that, but it didn’t sound like a major deal based on some of the post-game quotes).
Even without her, we need to be stronger in the paint- we were outrebounded and I think Bucknell won the scoring in the paint. Crouch (12 pts, 11 reb) had a good game although she did miss a couple at the bucket. Glover seems to be giving them good minutes off the bench, too, although she’s really had trouble putting the ball in the basketball both today and against Indy.
I think the best thing was the guard play. We hit eight 3’s, more than in any game last year when we were dead last in the A-10 in 3-point percentage. Wanninger (15 pts) hit three and Hawkes (19 pts) three more. I like having Ty O’Neill (5 assists off the bench) and Hawkes on the court at the same time- it frees Hawkes up to do some things.
I’ve really liked the defense so far too- 10 steals and eight blocks. I think Jenna Crittendon brings a lot of energy on that end. They seem to be getting a lot out of the newcomers, which is real nice after just six or seven played last year.
I was thinking there would be more for the season opener too, although this one wasn’t against someone like Louisville that is close and travels well. Bucknell did have a decent crowd, though, because they have three local girls.

I liked the effort all-around and the composure to keep a modest lead throughout the 2nd half. My biggest, most pleasant surprise was the relatively very good play and contribution by several of the freshman in their first game. Huge upside if they all keep working and keep gelling as a team.
I'm not able to make the Michigan game tomorrow night and have left my tickets at will call. See the ticket trading post forum topic and get in touch with me if you'd like to see the Women early season in one of their biggest games.
