WOMEN’S NOTES: duPont Manual coach Stacy Pendleton confirmed that Kayla Styles committed to Xavier on Saturday. Six-foot-two Styles is part of a six-player recruiting class XU will announce next month.
“Kayla is the most versatile player I have ever coached,” Pendleton said via email. “She can play all five spots and will do so this year for us. She is impossible to stay in front of, tenacious on the boards, and is a lock-down defender. She will guard the other team’s best player this year whether she is a point guard or a post player.”
The Musketeers already have landed one player for the Class of 2014: 5-foot-11 guard Kindell Fincher. She hails from Fort Wayne, Ind. – just like someone else in XU’s program.
GRAY STREET: Senior Amber Gray had minor foot surgery over the summer and has only been practicing for the last couple weeks.
“(Surgery) didn’t change any of my goals as being a leader on this team and still staying focused on what I need to do to help the team. I’m good now. I’m back,” Gray said. “I’m working my way back to getting myself ready for that season opener.”
The team has a Nov. 3 exhibition against Indianapolis at Cintas Center before hosting Bucknell in a Nov. 10 season opener.
