Saw this article on CBS... (http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/story/19647270/xavier-transfer-lyons-has-point-to-make-after-landing-at-arizona)

I'm not sure why this kid needs a new lease on life.

Anyway, I wish him the best. I enjoyed his play while he was here. I also continue to find it funny that Sean Miller needs guys he recruited to Xavier to try and win a national title.

Yeah I mean I guess I can see it.

I don't think what Mark said in the press conference after the Shootout was wrong. I like the fact that he is headstrong, and plays with a passion. Unfortunately on the other side of that you get some dumb plays and stupid reactions to calls.

Well, the new lease for next year apparently including shutting down his twitter account.

I actually hope he does well out there. And then loses to X in the Sweet 16.

Maybe it was just a new lease on a Lexus.

I think that all tweets should be monitored and approved by someone. I would extend that to all social media. We should hire someone just to do that and ok that stuff.

That or just shut down the twitter. I think it is interesting to read some of the highlighted personal comments every now and then, but 18-22 year olds can make some serious mistakes very quickly and you can't take it back in the internet age.

I hope that Mark does very well and is the star of his team. I always thought that his senior year had the potential to be incredible. I am glad he is with Coach Miller.

Funny. People can't type 140 characters on a social network but they can own assault rifles? You have a warped view of the world...choose whatever freedoms are convenient for you I guess.

"Lyons averaged 15.1 points last season and shot 39 percent from beyond the arc. He's spent his entire college career playing off the ball since he was paired with natural point guard Tu Holloway in the Muskateers' backcourt. Lyons is ultra-athletic, extremely talented and a proven scorer."

Anyone else notice this? They spell "Musketeers" correctly elsewhere in the piece. That's kind of embarassing for Goodman and the editor.

Regardless, good luck to Mark in the desert though.

People own "assault rifles" because of the law and our Constitution. I didn't write the law, and I didn't sign the Constitution. It wasn't my deal. I was not involved. That is not a warped view of the world. That is the world that we live in. You are an infant.

I am ambivalent about "assault rifles". I don't own one, nor do I intend to own one. When they banned "assault rifles" by law (which they really didn't if you paid attention), I didn't care. When the ban expired and was not renewed, I also didn't care. I don't think that reenacting the ban on "assault rifles" would have much of an impact on crime and terrorism. It may have a marginal effect, but it may even be a detrimental effect. I don't think it would solve our problems.

Xavier University is a private university, and they have a "gun free campus" policy. It is private property, and they can do that. It has nothing to do with the Second Amendment or individual rights granted by the Constitution. Xavier is also free to monitor the twitter accounts of the students which it furnishes scholarships, and that has nothing to do with the First Amendment.

Our University got in some hot water by some heated statements by young men right after a major brawl where one of our players was blindsided and legitimately assaulted. You may remember it. Had we never had that press conference, we would have been in the clear. I believe we would have had a different season, and the Mark Lyons guy mentioned in this thread would still be with us today.

Maybe giving these kids access to the whole world after the heat of battle isn't a good idea. Maybe that is true both for the press conference and the twitter.

When I read that Sean Miller shut down Lyon's twitter account on this thread, my first thought was "That is a good idea".

I suggested that we don't shut down their accounts, because fans love the interaction. I suggested that we hire someone who's job it is to be the filter. Kids need a filter. People blow up their reputations on twitter. The person we hire might only edit or reject 1 or 2 messages every few years, but those 1 or 2 messages could be some major headaches.

I think it would be sound policy. Help the kids help themselves. PR is something that has been a strength for us over the years, that is why it was a shock to see us as a major part of the news cycle. We need to avoid those moments when and if we can, and I would like an assertive and positive effort to do just that. Every basketball recruit should be a double major. He gets to pick his first major, but his second major is public relations. Make that mandatory even if it isn't printed on the diploma.

Geesh Snipe. You can let something go every once in awhile. Everything doesn't have to turn in to your own personal soap box. Just take a deep breath and move on. The more people argue, the more each side becomes entrenched in their existing views.

This. There are some that still believe that it was all about the fight when in reality the damage was done by putting Butch and Sundance up on the dais.
