Hello X fans. I have a question for those X fans born and raised in Cincy.

Who do you root for during College Football season, if you follow at all?

Still interested in Xavier club football. Then (even tho some think it's heresy) UC football, then Boise State and Oregon because of the style they play. I find Big Ten football boring and ACC too. Enjoy SEC games for the most part. :D

Well said Q. I can't get enough Oregon and Boise football...so exciting to watch. Oregon has a lot of very fast young guys this year, should be entertaining.

I think it come from personal preference and family allegiances forged prior to coming to Xavier. I have aunts an uncles who went to Purdue and Auburn, hence I am a fan. I went to Indiana State, and while I grew up a Xavier hoops fan I didn't start giving a shit about The Indiana State University Sycamores until I matriculated there.

I actually have an advanced degree on this, cite me, ref me, close the thread. Boom.

If you're referring to the University of Clifton, I suspect it's because that establishment, from the very top down, is filled with a bunch of spineless, gutless, cowardly squirrels, who by their very nature command the utmost lack of acclaim and admiration from any self-respecting man, and that innately defies the entire nature of the game of football.

Let's make this happen. I'll be back for either Northwestern or Iowa. I/We/The In-laws, always tailgate in the handicap section of the Victor's lot: right by the M-Den and the main tunnel.

Gladden, I was going to Dallas (had the refundable plane ticket ready) and then I happened to use poor timing. Baby is due that very weekend. Wife is on orders to either hold it in or deliver well before the game.

This is interesting. Most of you would have gone to high school with kids who decided to go to UC, with most being the non-student-athlete variety. Actually, many UC football players have come from Cincy area high schools too.

Was there something that made those kids different in your minds? Where they unlikable in high school too? Were they the arrogant ones? Were they the jerks? Were they the nerds? Or maybe the football team, or the entire institution and everyone associated with it, is simply defined by your feelings about the basketball program?

I wasn't a psychology major, but I do find all this fascinating. It is like those of you (X fans) from the Cincy area (I'm not from Cincy) don't really view Cincinnati as the "hometown" college football team like they do in cities like Columbus, Lexington, Knoxville, Austin, etc?

I think that's only the view of some...A lot of my family before me went to UC. I went to Xavier. I wish UC football well. I'm not going to buy season tickets or a bunch of apparel as I do for Xavier sports but I'll go to an occassional game or watch some of their games on TV. I think a good majority of people in Cincy wish all the local sports team well, more or less.

My mom and brother went to State. I've had to hear a lot of it the past few years. I was at the greatest game ever though, 2004 at the Big House when Braylon decided to single-handedly beat the Spartans. Down 17 with 4 and half minutes left? No problem!

I had exactly zero people from my high school go to UC, not only in my class, but in the whole school. But I'm not from there. And I think you're taking this way too seriously. But if you're asking whether I could ever root for a team of Bearcats in ANY sport, the answer is a million times no.

As a UC grad (and employee for 10 yrs) I still don't root for them as a general rule. I don't mind seeing them do well but with the crappy stadium they have much hope of becoming any more than what they have is hopeless.

I live and work in South Bend now, which is cool since my football allegiance has always been with the Fightin' Irish. It was split in the early years with the Musketeers but....

Any ND fans coming up should give me a shout.

I guess you've never seen Stepbrothers.

I actually don't have a ton of UM allegiance. My wife attended and I got my Grad degree from a satellite campus. But if I'm going to cheer for a team, it's UM, considering my hatred of all things scarlett and grey.

State fans have a serious inferiority complex. Every year it's like, "We won again! Do you respect us yet? You just HAVE to! Come on!"

Of course we will never say yes. And when we just laugh and poke fun, they get ENRAGED.

Enjoy your time in the sun, my friend.

Haha well we can agree on loathing the buckeyes. I guess that's one all Michiganders can agree upon. And yes State fans do have an inferiority complex, I think most will admit that. But we just like seeing Paul Bunyan in our hands after so many tough years (2005 being the most upset I have ever been at a sporting event).

USC-ND was just an incredible game. That's awesome you were there. I watch a ton of college football. That's one of the greatest 5 college football games I've seen in my life. Just a mind boggling awesome game.

That's one thing you have to give the ND football squad some credit for. Even though they've been meh for the past 10 years, they've been part of some great games. I was at the ND/UM game at the Big House last year. Just awesome. ND's lack of defense and wide open offensive style seems to encourage great games.

I was fortunate enough to go to the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. Still, though, the best college football game I've ever been to was the 2002 Ohio State-Michigan game, just because that game was all anyone in Columbus ever seemed to talk about and actually getting to see it in person was really special. I'll always remember going to skull session before that game. The energy in and around that game was incredible. I'll also always remember my parents scurrying to get me out of the stadium and out of campus as quickly as they could. Happy though we all were, they knew what OSU's campus would turn into later that day...

I was also there - my first time attending a game in The Big House. I'm not really a U of M fan, and actually pull for State. The comeback led by Braylon Edwards was epic, though, and I can't think of a better way to be introduced to Michigan football. That said, I do not like attending games there. Very uncomfortable.

My allegiance is with the Miami Redskins. At one point they were shutting out the Buckeyes on Saturday...
