Xavier Golfers in the Ohio Am

Three guys from the Xavier Golf Roster are competing this week in the Ohio Amateur. All three made the 54 hole cut. You may remember that Korey Ward won the whole damn thing last year.

My boy Matt Gerard, who'll be a freshman this year was two under and tied for 6th after two rounds, but had an unfortunate day yesterday and is now 2 over for the tourney. Still, a helluva representation. Hopefully, Matty can go low today.

Korey is one over for the tourney after a sweet 69 yesterday. Aaron Siekmann, who'll be a senior this year is just below Matt at three over.

All in all, a really good showing by our guys. Doug Steiner is very pleased. With the new indoor workout facility being built at Maketewah, this program is back on the move up.

Having guys like Jason Kokrak, Andy Pope and now Sebastian MacLean on high profile tours helps too.

Korey is only 60 days or so post knee surgery to repair torn meniscus

Korey closed well with an even par for the tourney. Unfortunately, Matt shot a 78 to finish at 8 over but it was a learning process. He's not played too many 4 round tournaments, nor have too many other high school kids. He'll be fine.

Aaron finished one shot better than Matt at 7 over. Still. A pretty good showing by the Muskie linksmen in a tough competitive environment.

Korey has been playing nicely this summer. he lost in the semi-finals of the Cincy city championship and played fine at Sunnehanna. He is really looking forward to US Am qualifier in a couple weeks.

With Charlotte leaving, XU golf could prove tough to beat in the A-10.
