I find this quote particularly interesting...
Cooper said he’s leaning toward playing more home games, which might make it harder to schedule as many home-and-away series as the team has had in the past.
“I think it’s important to play the people around us, but not for the sake just to play,” Cooper said. “I think it’s got to make sense within our schedule. It’s got to make sense with our student-athletes
So, in attempt to schedule more home games, he plans on cancelling series with local programs with a larger profile who are actually willing to play them at home. Great plan.
the article didn't mention Xavier specifically, but the writing may be on the wall. This rivalry, one of the great rivalries in all of human history, may be coming to an end.
I hope DC Muskie can muster up the strength to deal with such a crisis.

Not to mention they are alienating local programs that are not only willing to come to the Millet Hall of Horrors, they also bring their fans, in droves. Which should, in turn, boost their athletics revenue.
Remember the last time UC went up to Millet, they more than allienated UC by making them purchase a mini pack as the only way to get into their game.
Wait, maybe that's the problem, they don't like playing schools that are actually close enough to bring their fans there. They would rather play in front of a fourth full house of their own fans. Not that it has helped us any...

Seriously, I am just perplexed by the thought process.
He wants more home games, so he is thinking about ending home and homes with higher profile programs.
As flawed as I think that is, I'm not complaining.
There must be something about being named John Cooper and being a college coach in the state of Ohio that results in a complete loss of common sense.

I think he just said "We need to buy more wins."

Yep. Miami would rather play teams they know they can beat every year.

Can they afford to buy wins??
1. I don't think they even average 3000 fans per game. They'd end up paying out far more than they were taking in.
2. There aren't that many teams that are significantly worse than they are.

My first thought. Seems like a good way to end up with expensive losses. I'm sure NKU would love to take them up on a buy game. Good luck with that Miami.

There is no way that any of their athletic programs make money except possibly hockey. And hockey certainly isn't subsidizing the rest of the athletic department.

I actually thought that the teams they were looking to end series with were UD and Wright State specifically.

If you ever want to watch a basketball game in an outdated movie theater, then Millet is the place for you!
What a weird dump of a venue.
