Interesting article in the Enquirer (not really) on the difficulty of getting teams to come to Clifton.
The only Non-Conference home game listed besides Xavier was ....wait for it... Wright State.
And if it wasn't an alternate year they wouldn't even be getting X.
It is not surprising that X is the highlight of their schedule - and it is not surprising that the game was recently in doubt (not sure how much of that was real or contrived).
Why would anybody want to come to the Shoe?

I read the article...Mick says how hard it is but basically every other "player" in the big east has no problem doing it...and teams like us have no problem doing it. I get a sense that what it rally comes down to is that having UC on the schedule just isn't a marquee game. It's not that nobody will come to the shoe, it's that it's just not that sexy to play UC.
Either that, or our administration is just that much better than theirs. Which is entirely possible.

I also think it's a process that a school has to continually work at.
You develop relationships, you develop some regional rivalries (Miami/Butler etc)
Xavier didn't flip a switch and all of a sudden have a great non conference schedule.
Mick makes some pretty lame excuses which is expected.
UC now realizes they have a problem and it's going to take some time to improve the situation........good luck.

I thought they were bringing in Kentucky?
At least that means the Shootout is on.

All of those "scheduling" stories were just Bill Koch's way of earning his money as UC's quasi-sports information director and alibi producer for the YTG. Some facts to consider:
* Xavier has been offering basketball fans a much better non-con home schedule for years. The argument that because the BE is the toughest conference to play in and thus a mild NCS is necessary to survive no longer holds water. With the defections soon of Syracuse, Pitt and W.Va. gone, the league is not nearly as competitive as it once was.
* The idea that UC or the BE or SEC or NCAA or any other entity could "force" Kentucky to come here to play the vaunted Bearcats instead of playing at Syracuse, UCONN, Pitt, Villanova, Georgetown, Marquette, St. John's (in MSQG) is laughable. I think Mitch Barnhart and John Calapari will have a lot more to say about who Kentucky, as defending National Champion, plays in the BE-SEC made for TV series than anybody at UC or even ESPN. And what would be so attractive about a UC-UK matchup that would supersede a matchup between UK and any of those teams I've mentioned?
*YTG is still, through his lackey BK, attempting to give the impression that he will have the final say in whether the XU-UC game is played and where. He has said to several people I am close to that this coming season's game will be the last in the series and he will never take a UC team to play in Cintas again, ever. He has personally told Koch that Xavier was totally to blame for the brawl and he wants it portrayed that way every time it is mentioned in the Enquirer.
*He has also put some very heavy blocks of bad feeling between himself and Louisville by insisting that the UC AD make sure if U of L goes to the B-12, they take UC along. U of L would like to not have that happen.
*With the departure of Barry Forbis from his job as sports editor at the Enquirer, there is talk of beats being shifted to avoid overly friendly relationshps between reporters and the people they cover. But for now, the made-for-UC must run puff pieces will continue.

Another reason NOT to wonder why newspapers like the Enquirer are going out of business.

If that's true, the Enquirer has no choice but to tell Mick to take a hike, if they want to maintain any semblance of integrity. They can't allow the people they're covering to dictate the way they report, though I'm sure it happens.

I just really don't understand how any UC fan can be fully supportive of Mick. He takes the blame for nothing.

Well, it's obvious now that the Bearcats will not be scheduling Play from the Bar League. That Brian McLucas trash talks like he's from New York.

Bill Koch will be publishing an article shortly about how McLucas singlehandedly started the fight. Just as soon as Little Mick gets done scrawling the text in crayon, placing it in abucket, and lowering it to him, Buffalo Bill style.

Not trying to be confrontational here - but as a UC he earned back my support the last two years. Winning back to back games in the NCAA was always Huggs achilles heel.
Now getting to the man topic, UC's schedule. Yeah, I don't buy season tickets for the fact I could careless watching Arkansas Pine Bluff come in 7 times a year. I usually just buy single game tickets to the BE games. I've heard they may have a home/home with IU. They are going to need it SMU,Houston, and UCF aren't going to add many resume building wins to the BE schedule

Well, you know, UC's 2011-2012 non-con schedule was brutal; they simply can't afford to lose to juggernauts like Presbyterian anymore.
