Went to the zoo two weeks ago for my kid's field trip. Lot's of different schools were there. It was very very crowded. I counted over forty buses.

Was pleasantly surprised at how many kids were wearing Xavier shirts and hats. It was very noticeable. I would say 5/6 to 1 Xavier shirts to UC/Reds/Bengals shirts combined.

Funny how things like this make me giddy.

Just thought I'd share.

And yes I saw the baby camel sleeping next to its mama.

That's because Xavier's girls are born there before moving to campus.

The Cincinnati Zoo is nationally and internationally respected and one of our crown jewels of the city.

To add some politically incorrect flavor, the Cincy Zoo used to have an Sioux Indian exhibit with live Indians, Tee Pees and all that. Some Sioux Indians were paid to live and work the old ways at the Zoo, and people came to look at them just like all the other animals.

I still find that somewhat hilarious in a dark politically incorrect way. You couldn't have that today. Just imagine. I think having human zoos wouldn't be a bad idea. For the sake of anthropology and preserving the record of low-rent drug culture, maybe we could have a human zoo with crack whores. Wait, I live in that. Perhaps I should get armored buses and start charging admission.

I also think that some people would pay to see Detroit in an armored bus, or South Central LA. You could go past riot torn areas in both cities, but Detroit would be a better pick because a lot of it is still in original form. I think I could do very well if I started the company and acted as a tour guide during our journey, my years of research could be put to profitable use.

Everyone has by now seen The Wire, but how many people have gotten the actual bus experience?

We live in a human zoo (some more than others), and the collapse is going to be spectacular.

Ridden that ride many times.

Actually, I remember hearing somewhere sort of recently that someone is doing a tour guide of the hood and that there's supposed to be some code amongst gangs to hold off on doing anything dangerous during it. It was ridiculous. I wish I had a link.

I wouldn't want to trust a code among the gangs, their is no honor among thieves. I would want an armored bus, with bullet proof windows. I would not be surprised if they had distressed bus tours though, I can't be the only one to think of it. People want to see how the other half lives, but they don't want to risk their lives doing it. Watching the Indians on exhibit at the Cincinnati Zoo was as close as you could come without fear of being scalped. Those Indians were some pretty brutal savages back in the day, and they fought wars against the settlers.

The Zoo is a great Cincinnati institution! Well worth supporting.

Did you enjoy a Red River Hog Ale?

It is exclusive to the Zoo and one of the highlights of a visit to the Zoo on a Hot Summer day. (Well any day actually if you like beer).

You sir, are a born racist. Native Americans are not animals. My brother is a Native American and we were even able to teach him to wear a shirt and eat at a dinner table... with silverware, even! Why don't you just grow a sack and apologize?

My wife and kids have Native American blood, though not enough documentation to get into Harvard like Elizabeth Warren. I didn't put the Indians in the Zoo, that happened in 1896. I didn't even have any relatives living in Cincinnati at the time, except maybe the Indians (on my wife's side at least, though she ain't Sioux).

But I will apologize, since you requested it. I apologize to the Sioux Indians that were paid to live in the Cincinnati Zoo in 1896. I apologize for the white people that paid admission to come and watch the Sioux Indians in an exhibit right next to all the other animals.

I also think we should offer reparations to the Indians, which include my wife and children. I think my children should get special exemptions to Ivy League schools and it should be all paid for by the taxpayer. If Elizabeth Warren can be a blonde haired, blue eyed Indian, than my kids can too.

I also think everyone else should apologize to my children for letting this happen in 1896, and I would like you all to give us some money to compensate for past wrongdoings.

I also think my kids should get free land, and prime land at that. It was stolen from their ancestors. Now that you mention it, I am getting pretty worked up about it. I think this apology thing is a good idea, but it doesn't go far enough to address the injustices that my children and their ancestors have had to stomach. I want all white people to publicly apologize to my children, and then give them money through government redistributive efforts. And when this happens I promise to vote Democrat as long as the money keeps flowing. Moma didn't raise no fools, you know.

Power to the People!!

Having people in zoos and at World's Fair exhibitions was pretty common for a while. I recently read about a guy, a Pygmy I think, that lived in the Brooklyn Zoo and was at one point encouraged to act savage and scare the visitors.

You apologize too easily, Snipe.

From what I can tell, having "world exhibits" at zoos and fairs was pretty commonplace. I recently read a book about the Chicago World's Fair at the turn of the century and they had many such exhibits set up from all ends of the earth. Apparently, the Morrocan exhibit was all the rage with the men of that time because the exotic belly dancers showed off their navels. Very racy for late 1800's.

I think this is why I love this message board.

I guy puts up a post about visiting the Cincinnati Zoo with his family, sharing that experience here, and within a few posts the following flow into the thread:

Indians
Crack Whores
Less than flattering comments about Xavier co-eds
A Brooklyn Zoo Pygmy exhibit
Native Americans who have learned to use silverware
Thieves
Bullet proof windows
Gang codes
The Wire
Bus experiences

What a community of discourse we have here. Very rich in content.

BTW, nice to know that Xavier apparel is selling strongly.

Pygmy's even today are hunted and eaten by the Bantu tribes in Africa. The Bantu also keep them as slaves. When confronted with charges of cannibalism, the Bantus laugh it off. They claim that the Pygmies are not human but little monkeys. Apparently they are delicious too. The Pygmy people have the lowest tested IQ of the human race, coming in at 54. It would be nice to set aside some of the world's rainforests for them, and let them live as they always have.

I wondered once what would happen if Pygmies had been extinct and then we found a skeleton of one of them. Given their little bodies and little brains, I wonder if we would have considered them human. Since they are here though, it is not polite to ask that question. The Bantu's both asked and answered that question, and their answer is no, and pass the stuffing. Now that is multiculturalism!

But only if its commercialized. Bus tours, overnight stays, snack shops, maybe a waterpark or two. We have to be able to make money off of it.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. We could also put in a high end resort and casino to get all the crazy, white whales to visit. With a golf course called Pygmy Dunes.

So if aliens kidnap humans and put them in their own zoos, does that make them racist?

"Human rights" is racist to other forms of intelligent lift.

If DC kidnaps hookers and puts them in his trunk - does that make him a racist?

I mean - I've never met DC but from his posts, he could very well be an alien.

All humans are animals. The only other category of living things to which humans could belong is the plants (unless you want to classify viruses, etc. as members of a third category of living things).

Our Zoo is awesome. I'm a big fan. It is not easy to get to, though the new parking area and entrance have made it less likely to get shot at entering the zoo.

The Tunes and Blooms event has exploded in the last few years. The first one I went to I'd guess there were about 75 people attending. This year, I think they had about 5,000 at the last one.
