Unreal.

As a fan, I think Rees did Brian Kelly a favor. Rees was below average for most of last year and flat out awful for the rest. This opens the door for Kelly to have an actual competition for the QB spot with Golson, Kiel, and Hendrix without the obligatory, "We're starting with experience" charade.

If I take some heat for being an ND fan, so be it.

Will this definitely relegate Tommy Turnover to the bench? I don't understand why he'd run and resist the officer rather than just geting an underage citation but we all made some bad decisions when boozing and in college.

If only he would've been overheard shouting, "F*ck this white club!" this story would be perfect...

Hahahah what the hell is Calabrase or whatever doing!?
"WHY AREN'T YOU A NOTRE DAME SUPPORTER!?"
Brilliant.

Really does make Kelly's job easier, Rees isn't a high quality quarterback, and this takes 25% of the equation out of place.

You're a college athlete and you can't outrun a police officer loaded down with gun, spray, cuffs, radio, etc.?

How long until MOR posts something on this?

Rees was terrible last year and painful to watch. Looking forward to the other guys getting a chance.

Go Irish.

You know he's a bad QB if cabbies can intercept him.

I'm in the Virgin Islands at a destination wedding....and just chilling. No problem, Mon.

I have a lot of rum and no hatred for anyone or anything in my body right now.

I'll get venom back soon.

Notre Dame football is irrelevant.........oh, that's the case all the time.

Well, one of nd's biggest problems has been lack of speed.

A little Havana Club going down the tubes, perhaps?

Yes they are. You know who they are now ? They're Minnesota. Occasionally a mid-level bowl, bounce up and down in basketball, but always good in hockey.

They're a hockey school now.

They are so irrelevant that they are a pretty hot topic on Xavier basketball message boards. They also are still one of the most popular, most discussed and by some accounts most hated college football teams around. On top of that they draw huge crowds every where they go, including in Dublin, Ireland. But yeah they are irrelevant.

Selling out stadiums doesn't win National Championships.

When it comes to winning when it matters, Notre Dame football is most definitely irrelevant.

They're also a baseball school now - the only Northern school to make the CWS in the last 2 decades along with a few guys in the Show - Brad Lidge, John Axford and Jeff Samardzja among others.

Hahahahaha......you could say the same thing about the Cubs. Drawing huge crowds while continuing to suck.

They're pretty good at lacrosse too. Notre Dame is actually a really good sports school. Just not in the two sports that anyone cares about in college.

Well, they can't beat a little ol' Jesuit college from Cincinnati in just about the biggest spring event.

False.

In fact more people witnessed last year's GoDaddy.com bowl between Northern Illinois and Arkansas State.

In fact, Pitt and BC have drawn bigger crowds then the Irish in Ireland.

I see your point. I would counter by saying it's probably easier for fans from Arkansas to get to Alabama than it is for Notre Dame fans to get to Ireland.

Notre Dame drew 38,000 in Ireland in 1996. At the time, Croke Stadium seated 45,000. They will draw more this year.

You make a lot of solid arguments here, but you left out the part about winning.

Louisville and Syracuse drew 50,000 in Tokyo in 1989. They're relevant.

My point wasn't that drawing 38,000 in 1996 made them relevant now (or even then). It was countering the point that Pitt and BC drew higher seven years before. The stadium that Pitt and BC played in had a higher capacity for football.

In the mid-90s, Croke Park's capacity was 45,000. In 1996, it was undergoing major renovations. While I don't know what the actual capacity was when the game was played - whether capacity was affected by construction - the point was that larger stadia allow for larger crowds.

BC ended the 1988 season going 3-8. Are you saying that an 3-8 BC which beat Army that year in Dublin would draw a bigger crowd simply because they played in a little bit bigger stadium? If ND had sold out their game they would have been something like 600 more people at the BC game.

If ND draws such huge crowds, including in Dublin, why did a shitty BC outdraw them? By a few thousand?

Actual Irish people went to the other games. Why didn't more actual Irish people go see ND?

Weird.

I will be interested to see how the attendance for this stupid game is. They stadium they are playing in is awesome.

I wasn't saying anything about the BC game or Ireland's interest in NCAA football. I said that it was played in a stadium with a greater capacity while Notre Dame's was played in a stadium undergoing major renovations.

Aviva is a pretty awesome stadium. I will be surprised and give you credit if/when it does not sell out.

Those shoes are stupid.

It will probably be sold out simply because the stadium is state of the art.

But really, I'm still not sure what capacity has to do with anything. BC was terrible that year. 42,000 showed up to watch. It's really not that far off.

People will show up regardless of the teams due to the novelty of the event. In 1996, Notre Dame sold 8,000 packages. I'm assuming Navy sold less, making the majority of the spectators Irish.

The Bears and Bucs drew 77,000 at Wembley last October. The Bears were .500 and the Bucs were 4-12.

Sorry I've gotten off topic. Can I go back to being excited about the possibility of Tommy Rees not playing next year?

The NFL is an entirely different thing in England. They actually are fans of the league.

I don't disagree with the novelty of the event. But the original point was ND is a huge draw no matter what. I was merely pointing out that in Dublin that case is false.

Boston College, Army, Pitt and Rutgers draw as well as ND in Dublin.
