This would be a good class to pick up another PG. Dee will be a senior and Semaj will be a junior when a 2014 guy joins the team. As we get closer to that year, we'll also be able to better project whether Semaj is good enough to leave early for the NBA. If so, a 2014 PG could start from Day 1 of sophomore year.

That being said, this guy looks like a stud. A top 15 player for each of the three major recruiting sites. Great size for a PG, looks to have a tight handle and great finishing moves, with the ability to knock down the pull-up jumper and 3-point shot. The ESPN scouting report says that he's an elite passer and his mid-range game is great, but he needs to improve on his defense. Also says that his feel for the game, athleticism, and rebounding are all only okay.

There's enough great play there though to see why this guy is rated so highly. Unless things have changed in the past few months, X is also currently in on another top 20 big PG, JaQuan Lyle, who is ranked right there next to Russell.

Don't think Lyle is a PG

Don't think Lyle is a PG

His projected position is debatable between the three services (none of them agree). He's still only a sophomore, so a lot could still happen. If his handle improves (he can dribble a little too high), he'll probably be a PG, especially since he's already a great passer. If it doesn't, he'll probably be obligated to play the 2 or 3 like Dez. If he gets taller, he'll probably just naturally transition to one of those positions.

Not good if he's hearing the most from the other three schools that's offering him..

Russell is visiting UC and UK next week. But I found this quote from the article pretty funny:

“I really never watched Cincinnati so I can’t really tell you about them,” he said.

I just can't see Russell leaving the state of Kentucky.

Is he touring XU today too? (in addition to UC)

Saw that we are having a 2014 recruit on campus today but don't know which one.

Haha that's great. I feel like once UK gets involved it's practically over, and I absolutely hate that.

Russell is #12 in the newest 2014 rankings on Scout. Wow. Hope we get him!

X mentioned (at least listed) in the listing for #12 (Russell) and #15 (Lyle)

and then not again until #51 (Ja'sean Tate) and a total of six times in #51 to #64.

I know most of these need to be taken with a dose of salt, but I just thought it was interesting to see at what level Xavier is (reportedly) setting their sites.

I would also be interested in the breakdown of those who are mentioning X among the schools they have at least a modicum of interest.

I don't know much about Russell, but X is definitely in the mix for Lyle and Tate. I think Lyle is going to be really awesome.
