Took a look at the records for the modern error (post '85) to get to the final four.
For the 26 years from '85 to '10, there are very few teams that get to FF without being a 1-4 seed:
104 teams in final four in those years; only 15 of the 104 were not seeded 1-4
#5 6 teams (1 Champion, Kansas)
#6 3 teams
#8 2 teams (1 Champion, Villanova)
#11 2 teams
Very, difficult to be in FF if you are not seeded in top 4. More difficult to win if not seeded 1-3. Only one 8,6, and 4 have won it all.
Last year was nuts. It's as if everybody couldn't figure it out. The final four seeds were a 3,4,8, and 11 with #3 Conn winning it all. Made no sense in looking at the history.
This year back to normal with everybody there from 1-4.
