Did people know about this:

Wow...
Maybe we should cut Thad a little more slack. He has had more of his fair share of difficulties in life. This would be truly horrible for anyone....
I have no problem cutting Thad slack because I like him, just not the university he works for. That sounds like a really rough condition, especially for someone who's an athlete and enjoys staying active as much as he does. I can't believe he's had that for 5 years and I've never noticed it at all, though. That's incredible.

I love Thad. He took our program to new heights and really helped X develop into the power it is now.
He also left us Sean Miller, the greatest coach Xavier's had (until Mack racks up some more success).
I bear him no ill will and I know he left in sort of a weird way but those things usually don't work out well. Some dumb people are still mad at Sean Miller.
I have no ill will towards Thad because we keep getting better and better so we don't miss him too much.
I will say this, the thing I miss most about the Thad Matta era is Enquirer beat writer Dustin Dow. He was awesome and much, MUCH better than Shannon.

Matta represents Xavier well up at Ohio State.

I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I have disk problems and am very afraid about the possibility of surgery and the side effects. It's pretty scary.

I have a herniated L5/S1 disc that I had surgery on a little over a year ago. I had the same symptoms it sounds like Thad had, with the disc pushing on the sciatic nerve and causing greatamounts of pain. After trying to deal with it for almost two years, I finally had the surgery and one of th surgeon's warnings was the possbility of foot drop. To be honest, I was too worried about the surgery itself going wrong and being paralyzed from the waist down to worry about something called foot drop. I feel for Thad and am glad to hear that he has coped quite well with his disability.
Truth be told, though, I'm kinda glad I didn't hear about it until after I had my surgery because it might have made me procrastinate on it even longer. Now that its done and I feel 100% better, I wish had done it sooner.

His daughters were the junior bridesmaids/flower girls in my friends' (2 Xavier grads) wedding last year. Barb was there with them, and Thad was supposed to be there as well. His back gave out the day he was supposed to come down for the wedding, and he couldn't move, so needless to say, he didn't make the wedding.
It is truly sad to hear he is dealing with this. For someone to be in such good shape and so active and to have to deal with this is just awful. The fact that he couldn't even pick his daughters up or put them on his lap is rough, especially for me, being the father of 3 little girls (the oldest of which was born the day he left for OSU).

Are you basing this on the missing mittens he wrote about when at LaSalle a few years back?
I like Shannon. I think she does a fantasitc job, considering she gets furloughed working for a crappy newspaper industry.
As for Thad, I have a sister who has had over her 40 year life about five major back surgeries. Her health has completely deteriorated over the past 20 years. There are days where she literally can’t get out of bed and has to take about 700 horse pills to just function. It totally sucks.
It’s remarkable that Thad is able to do what he does with a broken back and foot that drags. Lord knows I couldn’t do that.

Wow, memory lane...has Dustin come out yet?
I don't even have gaydar and I could tell. When you are surfing the fashion pages of the NYTimes on press row during a basketball game you are at best an effete liberal, and at worst a pipe smoker extraordinaire. Not that there is anything wrong with that, except the sucking, rimming and ass boning.
I think Shannon is great. I do think Dow had his moments. His article and video on the packline defence was classic. Fred Garvin had tried to explain defense to me from his days in the league, but I never got it until I read Dow. He did great work for us and should be commended.
As for Thad, I am sending prayers his way. He gets a bad rap here for no good reason. Enough time has elapsed. I think we should all come together and that OSU should play Xavier a home and home to seal the deal. Who wouldn't love Thad then? He did play Butler. An OSU matchup would be the hottest ticket the Cintas has ever seen.
I root for Thad, and I think he is a good man. If you offered me 2 million dollars and a private jet, I would leave all your worthless sons of bitches in a New York minute. I would write you all one big fat Dear John letter.
Dear Xavier Fans,
I will always love you, but I am not in love with you. I am in love with my big freaking house, my multiple million dollar salary, and check out my phat private jet. What to head up to Chitown for lunch with some friends? Write it off as a recruiting expense. I am now master of the universe.
Signed,
