Tuesday March 13 - (1-1) (I'm not sure we're really all that heartbroken over the loss)
Umass takes out Mississippi State in a 2OT thriller 101-96. Yeah, UMass led mose of the game and tried to give it away, but they came through in the overtime periods, in a gym whose crowd was sparse.
dayton gets taken out by Iowa - don't kid yourselves however, that game was pretty competetive until the end game, when, uhm, well, dayton pulled a dayton and collapsed in the home stretch. Almost makes you wonder how it would have turned out had it been played at udump arena. At least Iowa's fans showed up.
Wedneday, March 14 - The Philladelphia Exhibition - OR The Philadelphia FAILURE! (0-2)
LaSalle loses to Minnesota in Tom Gola's Garage. It was actually close almost all the way through the game. The way Tom Gola's Garage is setup you got to see all their fans heading out early to beat the traffic home as the clock wound down.
St. Joseph lost to Northern Iowa on Hawk Hill. AT least the Hawk looked nice. Again this game was also a close one. I think my favrorite play was fouling N Iowa with 1.3 seconds left in a tie game. Or was fumbling the ball in those final 1.3 seconds worse?
Friday, Mach 16 - This is the real tournament, boys and girls. (2-2)
Xavier wins and takes out Notre Dame in a thriller.
Temple came out strong Against South Florida but couldn't hang on.
St. Louis defeats Memphis in a game I admit I didn't watch since I was enjoying watching Duke lose
St. Bona takes on Florida State and were winning most of the night until tournament inexperience bit them and choked it away
Saturday, March 17 (1-0)
Umass dedeats Seton Hall at Seton Hall - Next game TBA
Sunday, March 18 (1-1)
XAVIER takes on Lehigh at 7:45 on TruTV. In Greensboro, NC and WINS to go to another Sweet 16!!!!!
St. Louis tries hard, but couldn't get it done with Michigan State (Sparty).
Tuesday, March 20 (1-0)
UMass defeats Drexel in NIT quarterfinal play. Tight game through and through with Drexel leading most of the way. UMass came in at the very end to snatch the victory.
Friday, March 23
XAVIER takes on Baylor (Human Highlighters, in the parking attendant uniforms) - 7:15pm on CBS.
Tuesday, March 27
UMass takes on Stanford (Attack of the Tree!) at Madison Square Garden in the NIT Final Four - 7:00 on ESPN/ESPN2

quick question... I remember in the past that the NIT would pick the sites to play at based on attendance - has that changed?

You would think that Dayton would plan every year for being in the NIT and not schedule the NCAA play-in games. They're costing themselves a first round NIT home game.

I believe it has. The higher seeded team gets the home game (unless their facility is unavailable).

Seton Hall played their home game on campus (which is eerily reminiscent of La Salle's gym), so clearly you are allowed to play at an alternate site nearby if one is available. Apparently they couldn't reconfigure the Frericks Center for such an occasion (like Ohio State will do for St. John Arena on occasion).

Yes, now the higher seed gets to host as to give them home court advantage. One of the perks of being a higher seed team.
From a revenue standpoint it probably made sense to try to guess which school would draw more fans, but then you would have the case of a smal college getting a 1 seed with its 1,000 seat high school gym, faced with an 8 seed BCS school with a 20,000 seat arena and a rabid, never say die fanbase. While having the game at the 8 would make more money, that really wouldn't be fair to the 1.
Wel, except for those on here that claim the fans in the stands don't make a bit of difference to the game result.
i'm surprised dayton doesn't ask Wright State if they could use Nutter. Hey they could even try to rent Cintas in the hopes of being able to say they won a game there. :D
For that matter what does dayton have on the NCAA to have them play the first four there every single year? No other school wants the play in game stigma?

Yes - we have seen some schools pull out some different arenas for the NIT. The UK fans went absolutely nuts about the chance to se the men play in the intimate confines of Memorial Colliseum, even if they were ready tor ide Gillespie out on a rail.
Some school used their old 1920's era on school fieldhouse one year when their rented public arena turned them down...

Hara Arena could be another option, but I guess it wasn't available either.
I think Albany and Pepsi Arena made a bid for the play-in games one year, but I guess if Dayton wants that to be their calling card, so be it.

Yeah our one NIT win is from the one that was a true ROAD seed, and it took them 2OT to win,
Both of our teams that got to play their NIT games IN THEIR HOME HIGH SCHOOL GYMS, lost. Dayton also lost as a #2 seed.
So much for the Philly region in our little conference.
Also, it doesn't matter if Hara doesn't have hardwood, The NCAA brought a toruney floor to UD Arena, so UD could move the UD floor to Hara.
-----------
You know, given as close to the NIT as some thought we were, our own arena had a slate of high school games tonight, the same thing could have happened to us, OR would be have politely showed the high school teams and their fans over to Schmidt Fieldhouse.

Anyone else struggling with who to root for in this game? I would like to see the Bonnies win but I also want FSU to win because the winner plays UC.

No kidding. That would be awesome. Good thing that it isn't a battle of cheerleader talent. SBU would lose to both!

Gap is getting tighter, let's hope St. Bonnies can hang on.
Sports are funny - five days ago I was rooting against the Bonnies, and not I am rooting for them. Following their twitter feeds and all, the A10 title, and having both men's and women's basketball in the NCAA's has really brought a swell of pride to the program and the community. Great to see that.
I'm sure they could not have been too happy when they told the whole Olean Welding story, on national CBS on Sunday.

Memphis has completely taken Conklin out of this game so far. Their bigs are too quick for him. I think if SLU wants to pull this one out they gotta keep up the great D and the guards need to carry the load offensively.

My god Temple sucks...The Bonnies had a very tough game, but Temple chokes as usual in the NCAA tourney. They have 1 tourney win (last year) I think in all of their appearances over the last 6-7 years. Temple freaking sucks. Way to represent the league. No wonder why we have the weight of this crappy league on our shoulders.

UMASS should be good next year. Their PG Williams is a stud, Putney is solid and freakishly slender. His arms freak me out. They only lose one contributing Sr in Carter at 7 pts and 6 boards a game. Not sure how their recruits look, but UMASS will be good next year. The only thing that will hinder them is their rat coach.

I'm not sure if you are making fun of him, but personally I love to see that emotion. Dude had heart, he was committed to SLU and his teammates and he was crushed seeing his career end. He seemed like a smart player. Not the biggest, fastest, or strongest guy, but he played with smarts and was a great player that destroyed X this year. I love the emotion, but am glad to see him leaving the program.

I was making fun of him. In all honesty, I like to see the emotion but for me, it kinda gets covered up because of his whiny attitude and chippy fouls on the court.

They are the absolutely the biggest chokers in the NCAA Tournament. Obviously, Dunphy does a crap job of preparing a team for the Dance. How about this?:
Dunphy's NCAA tournament record is 2-14 and his .125 winning percentage is the all-time second worst for a coach with at least eight games coached, according to STATS LLC. UCon's Hugh Morril was 1-8 in the 1950's for a .111 percentage.
I'm sure he'll make the Big Greased proud.

What incentive did Temple have to earn tourney credits for the A10 when going up against a big zombie opponent?

Gotta give it up to the Minutemen. Helluva comeback to win in an oven at Drexel.
They were down by 17 at one point. Looks like Kellogg has finally found out how to coach.
UMass has one damn scary team coming back next year. The only starter not coming back is their weakest- Carter.
The A-10 has a real chance to be a really strong conference next year. Even the bottom feeders will be better-especially if some of the verbal commitments that were going to go to Wagner decide to go with Hurley to Rhodee. Even F-m with Gaston coming back could be, dare I say, respectable?

Did you see that freakin' box score of the UMass-Drexel game, UMass 72-70? Holy sh!t, when you'd wonder how Umass didn't lose by 20 instead winning by 2. They were outrebounded 35-16 and shot 47% from the line.
Just maybe they'll be saying the same thing about us around 10pm on Friday night...how in the hell did X pull that one off? Likely it was just our elitest attitude ;)
