Where is the A-10 going to get its nepotism now?
On a serious note: They were pretty darn bad this year. And URI never did anything in the years that they were good. Plus, Providence finally has a coach the should be able to pull them out of the cellar (I don't know if there is any rivalry between the two programs, but it's not good to be on the bottom of the totem pole in your own state, especially one as small as Rhode Island). That being said, I hope Baron lands on his feet, having a family and all.
My real concn is that there is a total lack of mustaches now in our conference. First Lutz, then Dunphy cuts his off, now this! I don't think I can take this...

And so the coaching carousel starts.

.
He made a base salary of $348,984 this year plus $229,181 (or the gate receipts of one game). He also had fringe benefits this year equal to $92,295 plus a paid country club membership, etc. A quick google search shows he earned he earned $603,371 in 2008. Plus his salary for 10+ other seasons of coaching.
I'm not sure how high maintenance costs are on a mustache that supreme, but I imagine he will be ok.

His son already transferred once (from UVA to URI), so I think he is stuck.

A few points please; (!) Under strict rules Doug Barron may have difficulty transferring anywhere in D I b/c he started at UVA before transfer to Rhode which in reality limits his playing years--might even be 1 more or 1.5 more after sit out year. Would hope NCAA cuts some slack when your Father/Coach is canned. Did Sean Sutton benefit from such consideration ?
Second slightly less than gross conjecture at this point but could possibly see Coach Baron welcomed home to Bonnie-ville. Schmidty has done an exceptional job up there and should be looking for a big extension or better place (which could even include Rhode).
Nevertheless not so long ago Rhode was in a similar state and sold out completely to Harrick & Odom. Hope their program figures out standards are still better than records.

I think we talked about this previously. It cannot come as a surprise to many. They sucked and really the guy has been so-so, a taller Brian Gregory, if you will.

Who? You mean Billy Baron, right?
Anyway, I'm throwing a name out there as a replacement just for the hell of it: Dan Hurley. He has good coaching pedigree and led Wagner this year to 25 wins and a 13-3 conference record in the NEC. I know he is more of a Jersey/NYC kind of guy but Rhode Island isn't too far away. He can recruit there. I wouldn't mind seeing a name like his as a coach in the conference.

Welcome back to coaching, Pat Kelsey?

I think Rhody's gonna go more high profile than Pat Kelsey. Kelsey might be able to get a low major job, but he's not getting a job like this.

Welcome back to coaching, Pat Kelsey?
Not sure Pat would go from "retiring" from coaching to a Head Coaching job at a decent size D1 school.

Jeff Borzello tweeted this earlier in the day. Heard Al Skinner, Danny Hurley, Jeff Boals, and some others for Rhode Island.
Personally I think Hurley would be an excellent choice.

Great hire for Rhode Island! Rough set of years Rhody just went through, especially the last one.
That's really the way to make our already pretty good league great, by each program stepping up.
