Cincinnati.com is reporting that there was a bad construction accident at the future Cincinnati casino. Something involving a steel beam, and the second floor collapsing into the first floor, taking all those standing on the 2nd floor down with it. They said fortunately nobody was on the 1st floor.
At least 20 injured, 15 in hospitals. Messer named as the construction firm, and also mentions this is the second building collapse for Rock Ventures (the Cleveland casino parking garage collapsed about a month ago)
Press conference at 11:30

The news has it so wrong on this, I was there, and CFD transported less than a dozen. They were pretty banged up, but that's about it. One slab collapsed as they were pouring it, and the structure as a whole isn't in danger of collapsing. OSHA is going to have a field day on this, and from what other guys were saying the engineering company (that we think is the same one used on the other casinos) is going to be in deep doodoo. But the news reporting is going way overboard. Its akin to how they report a minor snow event in this town. Making much too big a deal about it.
I HATE dayton.

Somehow the news media will blame Xavier for it.

Messer just held a live press conference at the site of the casino collapse. Obviously Thor provided details that the media couldn't get right.
Then a GoBus hits the Channel 9 news van next to the press conference. The bus driver got out of the bus and started yelling at the people holding the press conference. Of course she was right behind the Messer guy giving the press conference, so it was all on live tv. Looks like she called the cops right after that. They had to stop, move and restart the press conference. Wow. That video (http://www.wlwt.com/r-video/30315881/detail.html) could get a lot of play.
Obviously hope everyone injured is okay.

Did 2013 just become 2014 for the casino opening?

There are a few national media outlets picking up on this (Yahoo, MSNBC to name a couple) story today. I'm glad nobody is seriously hurt, whether it's 10 or 20 workers.

Want to get people to stop paying attention to your press conference, get a psychotic bus driver to cause a scene.

It gets good at the 1:12 mark. You might have to refresh your browser once you get to the site.
Enjoy.

I saw that about the bus on Twitter. I'll have to look for a video link for that later.

Let’s recap some of what happened in that video.
-Thought bubble over the guy giving the press conference: “Why couldn’t I have inherited a hedge fund?”
-Love the fact that Darryl Dawkins sister had no problem lighting up the entire Cincinnati news media with cameras rolling.
-John London standing 3 inches from the speaker’s ear, narrating the play by play like he’s the dudes own conscience. “let me recap, your bad day just got worse as the bus just….”

So when will Metro be going on a month long apology tour. :)
Please tell me the bus in question was not one that has the Xavier Muskies on Fox Sports Ohio signs on the side.

I am pleased to say it was not the XU branded bus. In fact it wasn't even a Metro bus, it was a Go Bus.

All kidding about the bus incident aside, prayers to the families of the injured, and on a personal note, I hope this doesn't slow down opening too much. I know that's kind of selfish given the days events.
The cincinnati.com article said they had signed a self-policing agreement with OSHA. I hope they did everything right, or as Thor said, OSHA is going to have a field day with this.

I found it entertaining how it appeared the guy giving the press conference was trying his hardest not to laugh during the entire bus incident.

With what the guys who were deeper inside the scene than me (on the bambulance today), they are saying there might be a problem throughout the structure, as in, how the Ibeams are connected. If true, and the investigation finds it as such, methinks it will be slowed down a lot.
I HATE dayton.
