Louisville got smoked tonight, 90-59 by Providence. I'm pretty sure Rick Pitino is currently the most overrated coach in college basketball. I just don't understand the hype around this guy...unless you're a restroom attendant looking for a free show.

Cronin regularly beats him as well. I think a lot of the Louisville fans are tired of him. He should have been gone after the Karen Sypher incident.

This is clearly covered in the Harvard May be Overrated Thread. How could you not check a thread that is so clearly marked before starting a new thread on the same topic?!?

I just don't get some people.

My bad. I should have checked a Harvard thread before posting about Louisville. Not sure what I was thinking! :D

Living in Louisville, obviously I am in the Lion's Den, and many fans don't believe that the problem is Pitino right now. Yes they are underacheiving, but it seems to many that there may be some kind of chemistry problem going on with the team right now. I watched a little bit of the game last night, and they looked like Xavier did a couple of games ago, just completely uninspired. With that said, Pitino is never going to be as great as he was at UK, but the guy can still coach. I just don't think he can recruit much anymore.

Buckets Henton - former UD commit had 14/4 and played all 40 minutes. Archie should have offered him better donuts.

Every January Louisville fans want to fire Pitino. Every February they love him again.

I know they lost to Morehead State in the NCAAs last year (and everyone wanted to fire him), but prior to that they advanced to the Big East Championship game and were hot down the stretch. At that point, Cards fans were talking Final Four. This was preceeded by losses to Drexel, Kentucky, Villanova and Providence where the fans wanted him fired.

It happens every year. On a scale of 1-to-10, Louisville fans check in at either a zero or 11. There is no in between. They are either elated and expecting a national championship, or miserable and predicting the demise of the program.

What's funny is that they want to hire Brad Stevens. They would have wanted to fire him multiple times last year, and may have burned his house down this year if Louisville's season mirrored Butler's.

Top two choices to replace Pitino according to the Louisville board: Sean Miller and Thad Matta. Ok, mix in some Brad Stevens as well.

Stevens would be the most likely, but I don't see any of them going there. UofL is not a step up for Miller or Matta so, unless the money is outrageous, I see no reason for either to make the move.

Miller might want to get back east. And Louisville is certainly a better place to be a basketball coach than Ohio State.

But I don't think it will be either of those guys, either. It's 5 years off (Pitino's not getting fired) for one thing. The heir apparent may not have even emerged yet. Or maybe it's Kevin Willard who's doing a great job at Seton Hall.

Pitt is having more serious issues - they lost 62-39 at HOME to Rutgers (yes, THAT Rutgers who wants to go to the ACC). The Panthers are now 0-4 in the Big East.

But Pitt is .... Pitt! And they play in the Big East! You're telling me they couldn't win the A10?

Pitt would have trouble winning the Atlantic SUN.
