RI sits at 1-11.
WTF happened to this former semi-respectable basketball school. They need to fire Baron ASAP.

Obviously, Baron has been sleeping on the job. After you've been at a place for a while, you should never, ever have a team like this.
New building and a respectable area to recruit from. If you don't believe it, just ask Ed Cooley. Baron has no excuse.
Disgraceful.

Yea, Baron will be gone at the end of the year. Honestly, he should have been gone a couple of years ago.

Just suspended their leading scorer indefinitely, as well.
Ouch!

What's the matter? Did Baron run out of children to make his basketball team somewhat respectable?

Can we send the St. Louis trolls over to the Rhode Island board to annoy them this week?

After the success Baron had at St. Bonny, I thought he was a pretty good hire. But he's had marginal success and has never made the NCAA's at RI. I think it's safe to say that this is his last year.
The question I have is "How good is this job? RI has had some success previously, but they also had some pretty good coaches- Penders, Skinner and Harrick. Since Harrick left about ten years ago, they haven't done much.

Harrick was a cheater who let Jerry DeGregorio take the fall for a couple of seasons at URI when they hit rock bottom. Baron was able to build them up to respectability, but much like Oliver Purnell he couldn't take the next step at URI towards the NCAA Tournament.
URI is like UC in that they could not afford to buy out Baron's contract for the past few seasons. I don't know how many years he has left on his contract, but I would have to believe given his track record that this season is an aberration for URI.

Ri has won 20+ games the last 4 years. but they still haven't made the NCAA. RI also has had three players transfer in the last two weeks.
Baron was also recently quoted as saying that RI fans are "spoiled" as a result of all the winning the last few years. I'm sure that quote went over well in RI.
Their leading scorer was also suspended indefinitely yesterday.

"spoiled"? I am sure they love being left out of the NCAA's. That was just dumb on Baron's part. Can anyone say final nail in the coffin?

Billy Baron was an impressive 0-7 from the field in his URI debut against Providence last week. So they've got that going for them!

It always seemed like Jimmy Baron killed X. I think Billy should wise up and transfer out of that program. Betcha that would go over well w/ Pops.

Here comes Rhody? An absolute crushing of a decent JMU team last night in Orlando. Billy Baron went for 17.

I doubt it. It's an aberration.

And it was.
Lost to Central Florida last night.
Not a bad night for the A-14 though. The dump avoided embarrassment and beat Ole Miss and Drunken Sot Jr. Andy Kennedy. Richmond and UMess avoided losing to barely D1 teams and Temple and St. Bonnie barely sidestepped losing to abjectly horrible teams in road games.
Props.......I guess.

St. Bona had one of their "Big 3" games in Buffalo - Niagara is as much of a trip to the dentist for them as Miami is for us.
UMass and La Salle should get some credit for at least fluffing up the conference RPI up come January and February.

Rhody playing BC this afternoon. Not very often that neither of these two is one of the top ten teams in New England!

Congrats to Rhody on being slightly less bad than Boston College (in 2OTs).
BTW, Billy Baron's a chucker. 25 points in the win, but 5-17 shooting. 11-11 from the stripe helps. I guess he's shooting to save his dad's job.

I think that the ACC will vote on removing Boston College soon.
I'll take the win for the A-10, but that is pathetic!
