Me and a couple friends of mine are starting a sports blog. I just previewed the Diamond Head Classic. 513-sports.blogspot.com. Follow us at @513sports. We just started, so I made this post just to get our name out there. God bless you all. Go X.

Just some friendly words of advice:

Lose the skyline of Cincy photo in the background and go with a more solid background. If you want to incorporate the skyline do it in the header photo instead of background. It will look cleaner and less distracting this way.

I would try to avoid the "-" 513-sports.blogspot.com, but I see someone already has 513sports.blogspot.com, so I guess you are kinda stuck there, unless you wanted to buy the 513sports.com domain name.

Your content looks good though and I will make sure to follow your blog. Good luck!

I am a critical a-hole, so feel free to ignore my comments. I don't read any blogs on a regular basis. I'm really not in your target market.

Having said that, here are the critical comments you can feel free to ignore.

1) Each post is in a different font. What the hell?
2) The Butch Jones post gives me nothing the Enquirer didn't already tell me.
3) "Musketeers" is spelled twice in the Xavier post with a lowercase "m". There's also some really clumsy grammar and sentence structure in there.
4) The Chris Obekpa thing is interesting, and appears to be original content, which is cool. The author refers to "here", but it sounds like that is in New York. Not totally sure how that fits with a "513-sports" blog. I see that Chris might have Cincinnati on his list. That seems like kind of a stretch.
5) Why the hell is there a story about a kid from New Hampshire that committed to Iowa State on a blog about Cincinnati sports?
6) The Latos post has no original content, but it does have original bad grammar.

If any of my comments help you focus on what you're trying to deliver, cool. If not, also cool. If you want to tell me to f-off because you and your buddies are going to do a blog and you don't care what I think, I would approve of that. It's not like you asked me to pay for your site or anything. Do whatever you want. It's a free country.

Did I mention that I'm a critical a-hole? I just want to make sure you're reading my comments in the proper context.

Thank you for the advice Kahns. We just started this, and are not too sure how the whole blog think works. 513 sports is just our title, but we are trying to interview all recruits nationwide. We will try to fix the grammar (Not our strong suit). And, I fixed the background. Thanks for the criticism. We will work to fix our mistakes.

And, the "-" has to stay in. We tried our best to not include it.

"Me and a couple friends..."

Maybe I'm an ass also, but this turned me off from reading your blog.

Xavier Nation

What do you want me to say?

Muskeagle

For starters...."My friends and I..."

That's a sticking point for me, as "me and my friends" already gives it an air of unprofessionalism.

One might also consider changing friends to something more professional, like..."associates".

If you want to be taken seriously, these kinds of little things matter.

Looks nice so far. Keep at it. Like all things you get better at it after time passes (in most cases).

I remember when no one thought this place would make it either.

Thanks you Muskie. We will get better as time goes along. After all, we JUST started this blog. We will do our best to fix minor grammar mistakes, but do not let that be the reason you do not read it!

My only point is that in the busy world many of us live in, it is sometimes hard to convince people to add MORE into their time. When one sees little mistakes which come across as unprofessional....it's easier to cross that off his/her list of things to add. I was only trying to add constructively, so that you might have a better chance of success.

If your ability to take constructive criticism manifests in how good the blog will become, then you guys should be a great success. You could have gone all apesh-- on those who offered advice/criticism, but you took it all with class. That seems to be a lost art any more.

My bad. I know the only way to get better is to realize your mistakes, and fix them to benefit yourself. It is the only way to get better. Thank you all. Go X.

I did a quick little interview with Semaj. I hope to have it up by later tonight.

When you post an interview, use your name in the first question, followed maybe by your intitals in succeeding questions...rather than using "me."

Check some good sports' sites to to see what I mean. Looks more professional.

Just thought I'd let everyone know we have a new blog. We decided to upgrade and get a domain with WordPress. We now cover only college basketball recruiting, but we will still try to get interviews with X targets/commits. Thanks and I hope you all enjoy our new site!

Listned to the Jalen Reynolds interview. Glad it was there, but it would be better if it wasn't so obvious that the interviewer was simply reading down a list of questions.

I'd rather that than all the er's and um's that come with trying to remember what it is you want to ask

You can have prepared questions and not be quite as obvious about reading them off a page. And letting the interviewee's answers guide you into the next question makes for a better interview, too.

I did voice overs in the Jalen interview. It sounded better with the voice overs rather than the original phone call.
