When has this guy EVER taken responsibility for anything. He is completely full of shit, and has a self serving purpose for his comments. He will likely use this as an excuse for his failures, but point to it as evidence of his high character, despite the fact he recruited the losers in the first place.

Cronin is an absolute loser.

This.

I'm coming out of the parking lot and hear this pap from Sippin' Mick. The first thing I thought of when he said that he "made them take their jerseys off" was that it was 95% because they got their asses kicked by XU, and 5% for the fight.

Now he'll use the suspensions as a reason why they'll suck the rest of the year.

Have fun Borecat boosters. You are stuck with this jaundiced clown for a long, long time.

He saved his job for another year or two with this presser. After the shit show that went down, he said all the right things that boosters and donors want to hear to make it right. He knew what he was doing.
If I was a real coach, I'd be yelling and screaming for a minute then storm off because I was so mad.

Mick Cronin: the man that brought Donald Little to Cincy.

What else did you want him to do or say?

Actions will speak louder than words (since you don't believe him). Give him a few days to follow through on what he talked about today.

There are a few things he said I would have rather he hadn't said: I saw this coming (and you did nothing to calm down your players?)...I asked the refs to stop X trash talking but they didn't do anything (of course it was all X)...trash talk doesn't happen in the Big East (while someone suggested he was being sarcastic, I didn't get that sense at all).

I'll be interested to see what he says, if anything, after he views the footage, since he claimed he didn't see specifics of what happened.

Cronin says there is an angle that shows Tu started the whole thing by provoking Dixon. Huh?

Absolutely happened. Lyons and Holloway couldn't wait to get a bucket and run to UC's bench to run their mouths!! As for Cronin....I gained some respect for him today. At least he's not defending his players actions. Al. Mack says is
We have good "kids"..........not today coach!!!

Oh. Widdy Biddy SucKS never gets any trash talking going on in the "rough tough" Big Least? Blobfan is all over that one.

I thought that the Borecats played in the big bad league? Now they can't take some talk across town? They never "run their mouths" under YTG? BS.

I sure remember Lance Stephenson loudly cussing at the Xavier bench. I guess that the jaundiced leprechaun has a short memory.

Xavier does have good kids, but today they made some bad decisions at the end. You gonna show up at 10:00pm mass tonight with Tu, hofer?

Yep. They were already going to suck. Now he has an excuse, and an opportunity to claim the moral high ground.

Never mind that this is the same guy who has been dealing with Yancy Gates' borderline criminal behavior for years and offered Lance Stephenson a scholarship.

I don't give two sh#@* what Lance Stevenson did two years ago. Since when did two wrongs make a right? As for 10 mass, I'll keep my normal schedule!!

I thought telling his entire team to take off their uniforms was a bold move in this post-Jerry Sandusky world.

Nice to see that Cronin is already backpedaling on his tough stance.

To absolutely no one's surprise, the final punishments did not fit the press conference.

Nancy and Moodj (sp?) 6 games. That means they' ll miss games against powerhouses
Wright State, Radford, Ark. Pine Bluff, Chicago State, Oklahoma, which is at home. Some murderers row. They also will miss the game at Pitt, but they'll lose that game anyway. The Rock-em, Sock-em Robots will be back for Notre Dame.

I'll give the jaundiced leprechaun this. He totally deflected how bad he and his team got boatraced by that nice little rant. Well played.....I guess.

Does anyone else find it funny that people in the media room applauded after Mick's speech?

For whatever reason, I think that image is just funny.

Also, anyone going to write a long story about how Gates is pretty much a knucklehead?

So many writers want to make sure Gates and Tu get the same harsh treatment in their columns.

I can only assume UC suspended their players six games because they can't count any higher :)

Im pretty sure the media was kind of happy that a UC player sucker punched some Xavier players. Most media types in Cincinnati do not exactly like Xavier.

Just head Katz on ESPN News. He is trying to sell us on the fact that those are 6 game MINIMUM suspensions. Time will tell.

Says Cronin wants to put them out on an unscripted, unprepared press conference to apologize for their actions. Again, I'll believe that when I see it.

Katz is also saying the game should be moved to US Bank...

Ya, I dont really understand what moving it to a neutral site accomplishes. Can anyone shed some light on that?

Yep! The amount of people extolling Mick's virtuous press conference last night and this morning made me want to vomit. Mick said what he said because he took a team into a rival's arena and then couldn't control them when they got it handed to them. He needed to save face and he needed to save his job and deflect attention away from the fact that Kenny Frease left the floor looking like he did. Anyone that bought into the BS that was last night's presser, must have fallen off the turnip truck on the way to the cabbage patch.

There was so much from that press conference that was nothing but nonsense. Mick physically removed some players' jerseys. Please. Mick wasn't sure if "some" of them would ever play for him again. Uh huh. Suddenly last night he's not throwing players under the bus by name. How convenient. It was all because X was talking trash and his poor widdle players were scared and confused and not used to that kind of talking. Their virgin ears and delicate sensibilities were overwrought with new, unusual emotions and the only course of action left to them was to punch and kick. Please. I'm shocked that he didn't say the reason Gates punched Kenny was because Gates has a school yard crush on Kenny and would have run away after punching him but there were too many people around him. I'm not Einstein, but it doesn't take brains to have watched that press conference and have seen that Cronin should get some sort of award for BSer of the year.

Last night's Mick was the fake Mick. That was the Mick that was apparently involved in drama at LaSalle (and they do have a good drama department) and maybe at UC too. Today's Mick that only issued a 6 game suspension to his two assaulters and batterers is the real Mick. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. Cronin is as spineless and shifty as they come. While he distracts you with his lovely prose, he's telling his players "Dude. That was so awesome! I've had an inferiority complex for years and I wish I could have thrown a punch too. My brother and Chris Mack never let me play with them when we were little. So cool. I have to sort of punish you, but I still love you! Let's hang out together later!" When Bob Huggins was on the radio and said that he can't say anything nice about Cronin, I knew we were in for a lovely time with him. If Huggins himself can't come up with something redeeming about you and he hired you to work for him- the very man who gave the spotlight to Dontonio Wingfield and Art Long (to name a few) and defended them and their actions - then you've got problems. Real, real problems.

I'm guessing because it's the easiest way to both keep the game and demonstrate that something has been done

Doesn't mean it will actually help, but if you've got media talking heads and people saying "make it a neutral site game", that's something the two schools can arrange real quick and show they have done something.

One of the reasons I think the fight didn't erupt into the stands was the low number of UC fans in the building.

Neutral site is a horrible idea. At least when the game is at somebody's home court visiting fans are outnumbered and less likely to start fights (unless they are related to Mick Cronin, apparently). Filling US Bank arena with tons of XU and UC fans sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

But it also sounds like something ESPN would love. Imagine the money they could make off of a city-wide riot after a Shootout game at US Bank. They're all appalled on-air, but off-air they're loving every minute of this.
