View Full Version : IU over UK. Acceptable court rushing.

There is much discussion over what makes for an acceptable rushing of the court. Knocking off #1 when you are unranked on a buzzer-beater 3 pointer when you were down two is pretty much the standard by which any court rushing should be measured.
Why didn't UK foul ?

Yeah, that was defintely acceptable. I think Caliapri wanted to them to foul.
Another Calipari lead team doomed by free throws. Surprise, surprise.

UK played like a bunch of really really talented individuals down the stretch. How do you let Davis have the ball to shoot free throws? How do you not foul? How do you not pick up the trailer who can beat you with a 3?
And yes, acceptable court storming. That was kind of IU's coming back party.

They didn't foul because UK was only up 2. Why would you give someone a chance to tie the game? It was bad defense and terrible free throw shooting that lost the game for UK at the end.
And I'm torn on rushing the court. IU is a storied program with 5 national championships and should act that way, but they have been down on their luck due to Kelvin Sampson - which turned out to be the best for X who picked up Crawford and Holloway.

They would foul because they had a foul to give. They wouldnt have gone to the line, they would have had the ball out of bounds. Calipari wanted them to foul.

IU spend about 5 minutes trying to give the game away by taking bad jump shots too.

I didn't realize they had a foul to give. Thanks. My foot has properly been inserted into my mouth.

No biggie. Most teams dont have fouls to give that late in the game.

Forget tying the game, they would have had a chance to WIN the game from the foul line had they been fouled in the act of shooting.

Yeah, you foul the guy coming down the court. Well before the shot.

I'm not a fan of rushing the court but think this was definitely acceptable. IU may be a storied program but they've had a rough few years. Beating the #1 team in the country after a multi-year drought is a worthy reason to rush.

If they'd won by 10, a court-rush would have been excessive. But to win on a buzzer-beating 3...yeah, rush that sucker. Rushing is about spontaneous jubilation.

A court rush is always a good thing. In this case, it was the only thing you could do.
IU has been through some tough times. Welcome back Hoosiers. They will be ranked with a bullet.

Yeah. Teague tried to foul in the backcourt, but he was screened by Zeller from Indiana right when he was reaching to foul.
No one else from Kentucky seemed to make much effort to foul, though I guess no one else was close enough to foul until the IU player was in shooting range. Calipari was pretty upset after the game that they didn't foul.

Calipari confirmed all my opinions of him when I heard him in the postgame saying "Why didn't we foul? We'll have to look at the tape to see who I can throw under the bus for not executing my perfect plan that would have won the game."
