View Full Version : Escalate the Hate: Butler 2011

Buck Futler
12-05-2011, 03:28 PM
It's the time of the year again. Even though TitanXMan attempted to steal my one shining moment, (I'm not bitter ) Uncle Buck Futler is back for his one annual post detailing the ins and outs of the bungling Neanderthals that surround Butler University and the slimy dungeon of hell which is Hinkle Fieldhouse.

After years of watching, analyzing, and understanding the "Butler Way" there is one word I can use to describe my feelings toward the school. "Magic". Though the word "magic" normally has a positive connotation, in this context, it could not have a more foul, abhorrent, detestable definition. The fundamental principles of modern human psychology cannot begin illustrate the most minute picture of my hatred toward the "magic" of Butler University.

The people of Butler University are the most evident example of my hatred toward their conjury. Most can agree that their base of fans who continue to root on the depleting, eroding, disappearing Butler program might be providing some of the most incompetent college basketball testimony since this great sport began. The amount of halfwit Butler basketball fans shuffling through this country reciting the same redundant verbal diarrhea about their "elite" program is appalling. In reality, all these mentally defective, basketball blinded loonies have to praise is Rat Howard's flops and Baby Face's "magical" missed half-court shot. I have never heard more about a single missed shot in college basketball history. Have you?

Listen up, Futler. And listen good.

Your clock will always need fixed.
Your "program" will always live in the shadow of Xavier
Your "fans" will soon disappear, as do all band wagoners.
Your stadium will always be a cave - dark, dank, and disgusting.
You missed the shot against Duke.
You failed to win the national title like 341 other teams in 2009.
You failed to win the national title like 341 other teams in 2010.
You are a surface nuisance to the NCAA community.
You will lose, and lose in humiliating fashion on Wednesday.
Your mouths will eventually stop running.
Your team will take the imminent plunge back to mediocrity.
You will be forgotten.

Jealous of the Final 4 runs? Sure. Jealous of the "Butler Way"? Please. I am embarrassed for the "Butler Way". Butler Basketball is the athletic equivalent to Valium. The Butler Basketball program is unquestionably the most hopeless, honorless, faithless, passionless, worthless, joyless, friendless, dreamless, needless, dickless organization in the history of college basketball. And I hate you.

All done. I'm going to go swallow a fistful of pretty colored, prescription pills until I pass out and wake up in Hinkle on Wednesday. See you there.

Until next year, children.

-Buck Futler

Only kidding about all this. (Sort of)

The poor little wannabes on the Futler board are bracing for a beat down.

Compliments of one of their posters:

While this game has the potential to offer another evening of comical entertainment, this is a good time to remember that the Dogs almost never lose by 30:

Using information provided in the media guide thread, below are the largest margin defeats in the past 20 seasons. Only 3 of the top 15 were at Hinkle, although Xavier is on the list twice:

1992-1993 vs NORTH CAROLINA -47 (@ Hinkle)
1992-1993 vs Indiana - 42 (Hoosier Classic, Indy)
1993-1994 at North Carolina -40
1997-1998 at Xavier -27
1995-1996 at Northern Ill -27
1992-1993 at Purdue -26
1995-1996 at Montana St -25
2010-2011 at Milwaukee -24
1994-1995 at Indiana -23
2000-2001 vs Arizona -21 (NCAA)
2004-2005 at Cleveland -20
2002-2003 at Duke -20
1998-1999 at Indiana St -20
1993-1994 vs XAVIER -20 (Hinkle)
1993-1994 vs CHARLOTTE -20 (Hinkle)

So averaging our last two pound-downs there - averaging UP that is - will provide us a nice victory by 24 points.

Montana State?

I dislike Butler as much as anyone, and I'll admit that the hubris of their fans is about as nauseating and pathetic as it comes. However, in light of their recent success both nationally and in cheating Xavier out of wins, this banter almost gives the appearance of bitterness and envy. Hate Butler all you want, but the fans that read this will laugh at you ... even if we win by 30 tonight.

Go ahead and give me negative rep for this if this annoys you, but you won't change the fact that you're belittling a small, midwestern program which has had far more national success over the past two years than Xavier has. Seriously, this does not make Xavier look like a better program than Butler. It has the opposite effect ...

I did not say anything about Xavier dropping off in talent next year. I never said anything negative about Xavier (I know you hate Butler fans, but I'm not here to bait). I said Butler will be much better next season, and they should be. The young players should see quite a bit of improvement with all of the playing time they are getting this year and then transfer Clarke will be eligible next year to fill a major hole (perimeter shooting) plus another great shooter/scorer in freshman Dunham. Only player we lose is Nored, who isn't that big of a loss. Before the year most predictions from the national level were that Butler would kind of drop off the national stage this year but then be right back on it for 2012.

Ok this bolded part is hilarious to me.

Disclaimer: I know you're new to this board and you had nothing to do with the conversations (read:dumbest assertions ever) I'm about to reference.

Right about this time last year we had some of your fine brethren on this here board extolling the virtues of Nored and Mack. Specifically, with regards to Nored, they were waxing poetic about how he was the best on-ball defender in the country. They went so far as to say that the reason Kyrie Irving had a good stat-line in NC game was solely because Nored was in foul trouble. They even implied that Mack/Nored was a better backcourt than Tu/Lyons. Now, one year removed from that conversation, Nored has been transformed into a "not that big of a loss." Again, I know you weren't a part of that troop, but the dichotomy between "best on-ball defender in the country" and "not that big of a loss" made me giggle.

Seriously though, I'm excited for the game against Georgi... err Georgetow... err Fresno Stat... err Gonzag... umm Mississippi Sta... or is it Yal... err University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüe... oh wait, I remember, the Butler Bulldogs. Sorry it's hard to keep track of which schools employ the use of such a unique mascot. :D

Well, he is one of the best defenders in the country. Well, maybe I should say come tournament time he is one of the best defenders in the country, because early in the season always he seems to overplay everything and go for steals and get out of position. I think once he gets put on elite level guards he focuses on just shutting them down instead of gambling on helpside and then he becomes that great defender.

But anyways, the problem is he is awful on offense. Absolutely pathetic. I cringe every time he tries to do anything with the basketball. Past teams could get away with that when we had guys like Mack, Hayward, and Howard playing well. This team doesn't have players at that level (they have players that can get to that level, but they are a long ways away). And even with those types of players, a lot of fans were calling for Nored to be benched last season, and then as soon as he was we went on our long winning streak.

Also, you may remember him costing Butler the Xavier game last year. I believe he missed 2 free throws that would have given us the lead before the final possession (or maybe a front end of a 1-1? I'm going off of memory, one I've tried to forget). Then he committed a foul 30 feet from the basket.

Ideally he is a good specialist and leader off the bench. I'm not trying to say he isn't a useful player, because he is. And he did play a big part in 2 final four runs. But when that is the only player you are losing from one season to the next that is pretty good. Especially when he is essentially being replaced by someone who was 2nd team All-SEC as a junior last year.

Great points. I mostly found the discrepancy in opinions from one year to the next to be pretty funny. Even though, as you said, he's pretty abysmal on the offensive end, you wouldn't have heard that coming from last year's bunch. All a matter of perspective I guess.

Hmmmm, surpassing has been redefined as having a crumbling arena with 0 parking, 60% occupancy for banner unveilings, screwing season ticket holders out of access to final four tickets in your own city, taking church vans to EVERY game within 8 hours drive, and non-functioning arena equipment.

We have way too many things in common to not respect them for what they've achieved the last two years.

Look I get it's a rivalry. But Matt Howard almost came to X. If he had played at X... we'd all love him. We'd appreciate the grittiness with which he played . But it's easy to do a hack job on him because he played for Butler. I don't get it I guess.

I guess I have to dislike anyone who doesn't play at X. I missed that memo.

Who said you have to dislike anyone who doesn't play at X? I don't think I've ever been jealous of Butler...especially when we beat you last year after you predicted that Scotty Pippen..er..Ronald Nored would shut down Xavier, and then lost the game for Butler. Can't freaking wait for tonight. I love this "rivalry", primarily because Butler will never win it again.

You clearly have no idea what the difference between hatred and jealousy are. Pretty sure nobody here is jealous of Jerry Sandusky, but I can't speak for Sweet16, _LH, or any of the Butler fans.

Why do you come here? Why do you want to see what boners are saying? You make a comment in another thread about how we will win tonight because it's one of our best teams in the last ten years while Butler is back to where they usually are. It took a clock controversy at your own shithole to beat a struggling (at the time) Xavier team with literally your best team in school history. You contradict yourself so much it's making me dizzy. You clearly are actually a woman.

I will gladly make the trip to the Final Four this year, if we are so fortunate. It won't take nearly as much fortune as it took Butler last year, but hey, it always takes some no matter how great (or unfathomably lucky) you are.

Look, the reason people hate Butler comes down to a couple of simple facts. It's not jealousy, regardless of whether you understand the difference or not. First and foremost, it's people like you. It's also rat fucks like Gordon Hayward, and especially Matt Howard. I don't hate all Butler players (I have plenty of respect for Shelvin Mack.) More than anything it's your intolerable fan base.

Again, you came here, seeking whatever it is you were looking for (DC Muskie's balls I assume.) Smack threads are not anything new or unique to Butler around here, but you guys certainly have your own special way of reacting. Xavier clearly gets under your skin, and you are still here, dozens of posts deep, so you have yielded the right to pretend like you are above ANYTHING pertaining to Xavier/Butler. You don't get to pretend like it's a one-sided rivalry when you take all this time out of your cooking and cleaning to make an ass out of yourself in front of your intellectual superiors.

That may be true, but that was not a correctible error if the coaches didn't spot it at that point.

The Xavier coaches pointed out the clock malfunction because there was the thought that enough time had elapsed with the clock stopped that Butler's shot should not have counted. Had Xavier not called a timeout and inbounded the ball at that point (which would have gone completely against every coach's and player's instinct), the final 1.2 seconds would have played out naturally.

But because of the stoppage in play, officials were allowed to observe any timing discrepancy ONLY from the beginning of play (after the jump ball) to that point in time. Officials cannot just go back to prior sequences in play and cherry pick how much time should be put on the clock.

What IS fair game is giving the timekeeper heat for stopping the clock without any whistle being blown and causing this mess. Would Heyward have kept his head and made a shot with 0.3 on the clock instead of 1.5 on the clock? We'll never know.

The clock malfuction ticked me off, but what really pissed me off that game was the reach around Hayward gave Lyons.....CLEARLY ATTEMPTING TO FOUL HIM....and it was called a jump ball.
I posted something on my FB page after the game. I went to high school (and had many classes with) Mike Monserez (a former Butler player whose dad also had previous ties to the school), and he and I got into....let's call it....a spirited debate about the whole thing. I knew him pretty well, and I grew up with Joel Cornette (played knothole baseball against him and had some common friends). I like both guys and never had a problem with Butler previous to that game. I actually found myself cheering for Butler whenever they were not playing Xavier due to them being a smaller private school (similar to Xavier). I also had friends who went there. I have no problems with the institution.
I don't like that their fans were apparently shouting some choice names at the X players all game (worse than your typical smack talk). They made the end game situation much worse than it should have been. They threw fuel onto an already blazing fire. It didn't help that Mr. Gose or McCallister or whatever stirred the pot the next day on his blog.

If you listen to the ESPN broadcast of that game, Bob Knight does make one valid observation here - Lyons made a mistake by running parallel with the endline as opposed to advancing towards the hoop. It gave just enough of an opening for the official to make a bad call (that was the first thing that absolutely had to go wrong for Xavier to lose - and did).

Xavier is going to have to be 10 points better tonight to be able to be reasonably assured of a victory; you can't rely on the officials to bail you out in a road game, much less Butler with a Horizon League officiating crew and a 1950s timing system.

I know it was a close call in that game but when the ball got tipped back into the backcourt it should have been an over and back. If you look closely Butler touched it last in the frontcourt before it went into the backcourt. Maybe thats why the time keeper stopped the clock, he probably had a good view of it and expected the refs to call it? Who knows. It might have been to close to call though.

Since you're here on our board, I'm gonna need to correct you on this one. The crazy part (besides the fact that his arms are clearly wrapped around him) is that he never actually did more than graze the ball for a fraction of a second. He got more arm than ball. They showed the replay. One of the worst calls I have ever seen in a basketball game. I was stunned. I actually rooted for Butler before all this ridiculousness. Now, I really just don't like them.

Was about to say the same. That was even worse than the no foul call.

Who keeps positively repping FUK? They need to remain in red.

I actually don't mind watching her rep get yo-yoed on her; I've seen anywhere from 9 red dots to 5 or 6 GREEN dots for her today. Clearly one of the legends has to be giving her good reps to make this work.

She also has the good taste to laugh along with everybody at her posts on here. That's more than I can say for other posters who don't understand why they're in the red and bitch about it on here. She knows her role on here and wears it like a badge of honor.

The clock issue was handled as it should have been.

What really cost us was when Haywood's reach-around molestation of Mark Lyons was called a jump ball instead of a foul.

Hello X,

I'm going to keep this short and sweet.

-Farts? Classy.

- We go to Butler, not Hogwarts the "magical" school.

-Nored, we will miss him as the great defender he is

- Does Kenny still have the restraint order against him? We would like to have a restraint order for the whole basketball team for the safety of our water fountains this year.

Lastly, keep taking shots like your alcoholics because we don't have haters, just fans in denial.

Much Love,
A fellow Butler Fan

Since you're here on our board, I'm gonna need to correct you on this one. I know you guys are all jacked up for Dunham and Clarke to get there, but if you look at who we have coming in (in terms of freshman and transfers), I'll take Xavier's guys every time. We have some studs on the way, and some coming back. The game may be close, but X will have more talent. I'd bet on it.

Let us compare recruit rankings using rivals (a poor representation of talent to be sure, but it's all we've got at this point)

Semaj Criston four stars #72 overall, #16 pg > Chris Harrison-Docks three stars
Myles Davis three stars #140 overall, #30sg > Kellen Dunham #141 overall, #31 sg
James Farr three star > Devonte Morgan two star

plus Jalen Reynolds and transfer Isiah Philmore and the talent gap is widening, not shrinking

Butler should be happy we broke their stupid water fountain. It was probably from back when that relic of a basketball arena was still relevant, so I'm sure it needed to be replaced anyways. I just hope they fixed the clock by now in that cave.

Bye Karen. It's been weird.

Does one green dot from a "legend" (Snipe?) equal a whole lot of red dots from the rest of us?

I remain very unimpressed by a "prestigous" private school like Butler which can not spend the couple of bucks needed for a good time system. Hell...high schools are doing it.

I was going to stay out of this thread until this "post" came along. Nothing sticks in my craw more than a person who posts on a rival's message board and does so with grammar befitting a five year old.

What exactly is a restraint order? And what kind of shots are our alcoholics taking? And, for that matter, who are our alcoholics? Is that a specific demographic of the XU fan base of which I am unaware? Also, from your post I'm confused about the existence of Hogwarts. Is it real? Is it Butler? That's just confusing, and I do not understand the reference. Does Harry Potter play ball for Butler? That must have been quite the recruiting coup.

But, mostly, one should stay away from a rival message board if one cannot string together a group of words to form a coherent thought.

No way she's a chick. No women I know, or have ever known, are that obsessed with butts, dicks, boners and so forth. "She's" practically demanding that you all yank em out and measure em up. I think DC will get quite the surprise on their date. :p

You could argue Xavier's result vs. Butler the last 2 years directly affected the seeding of both and thus shaped the fortunes of both.

2 years ago, if Xavier beats Butler in Hinkle Xavier is a 5 seed and Butler is a 6. Perhaps XU beats Syracuse and Butler loses to a less fatigued KState in the Sweet 16, or faces XU in the elite 8.

Last year, if X lost to Butler they might drop to an 8 seed, and Butler goes up to a 6 seed. XU could have beaten ODU and could have faced off against Pitt (for the 3rd straight year)

Again, we'll never know.

Sorry, i specifically watched him play in about 5-6 games and he was a dirty player. I don't care if he almost came to X. He was a hacker and a flopper.

It's 8:38, and Butler still sucks, has a high school level timekeeping system (which may be an insult to some high schools, better say grade school level), but at least the visitor's locker room should have the brand new water fountain we bought them.

It's rather simple, DC failed to remove that safety handle they have started to install on the inside of the trunk in newer model cars!

I'm always dumbfounded that we hate Butler so much. They aren't even remotely in our league, which was evident tonight - we crushed them while getting absolutely hosed by the officials. I know they have had recent success, but at the price of several NCAA violations that will soon appear - Stevens makes Jim Harrick look like a saint. We should treat this game like Morgan State - no more road trips there and spend our time discussing other, more important things. Ignore their deplorable, sub-human fans that visit our discussion boards and let's concern ourselves with teams that actually have a lick of talent - like UC.

Yeah! Screw Butler. Let's stop playing them altogether, I say. We only want to play teams that crush teams which are transitioning to Division I like, say, Presbyterian. We demand to only put teams on our schedule that can beat Marshall at home. Oh, wait . . .

Hayseed and Hack thought pitiful, go-nowhere NBA careers would be easier than passing advanced corn detasseling class. Howard got an incomplete after flopping during the final and faking a neck injury. I do commend them all for enrolling in most difficult class on Butler's campus though - they truly were stars on the court and in the classroom.
