A10 had a crappy day today going 4-3. UMass gets blown out by Charleston in the last game of the day. If any one of the 3 losses had been a win, I'd have considered it a solid day.

Sunday has some big games:

Temple @ Bowling Green. 2 est, check the MAC conference website for a stream.
Cleveland State @ Rhode Island (2:30 est). URI could semi-redeem itself with a win.
St. Bonaventure @ Virginia Tech. 6 est ESPN3. Bonnies need a BCS scalp.
Dayton vs. Minnesota. 7 est ESPN2. Not feeling it. Would be a surprise.
Saint Louis vs. Oklahoma. 9 est ESPN2. SLU D efficiency is top 10 according to Pomeroy. Always in the game.

I'll be surprised if more are won than lost.

Dayton is laying the wood to Minnesota right now - Flyers are up 59-44 at the under-12 timeout.

SLU's a 5 point favorite tonight. A SLU win and the night isn't a total disaster.

I stand by my statement that the league still blows, but the top half of the league might be pretty good. St. Joe's has been solid. Dayton is much, much better than expected. Temple is solid (though a bit disappointing). SLU is good. If a couple of others out of UMess, Duquesne, and St. Bonny can just reach respectability, we might have a good top 6 or 7. With the unbelievable struggles of the
Pac-12, the A-10 has an outside shot to battle for the 6th best conference this year...while still having some godawful terrible teams at the back of the pack (I'm looking your way F-em, LaSuck, Charlotte and Rhode Kill).

I'm glad they won it. Nice pub for the conference, and good for X's SOS and resume.

Too early to say Dayton may have gotten a coach upgrade? They may be the rival, but if we could muster 5-6 exceptional programs, that could do a lot for the perception of the conference.

I have friends who are Minnesota fans. I've been watching then on and off. I know Tubby inherited a real fixer upper there, but I just keep hoping to see them regain glory. The Dayton loss today doesn't help that, but second place isn't shabby. They came close to winning a big ten title. Of course the year their first round NCAA game was against Xavier, I had to put our own interests ahead of theirs. (Minnesota basketball never did recover from that academic scandal)

In regards to Temple - well you know they did have to play in front of a huge maniacal crowd on the road. (1,268)

Watch out for SLU. They look like they are going to win this tourney and be ranked tomorrow.

Dayton surprised me winning that tournament and spanking Minnesota like that. You know their fans are just frothing at the mouth with the new regime. I love how they get their expectations up high and how we crush all of their hopes and dreams. Go Flyers!

If this league got rid of some deadweight it would be a lot more impressive. Just getting rid of two teams and going back to divisional play would be better than this.

Temple seems to love losing in the non-con. They have a long history of it.

I like the thought of SJU getting back in the grove. With coaches like Martelli and Majerus doing well this conference could get a lot of pub.

Temple losing their big man hurts. They also have Randall out. They'll struggle in the OOC but I expect them to be great at the end of the year whether they get Eric back or not. They don't lose to BG if Eric plays.

Getting the Hawks in the mix would be huge.

Hopefully my Billikens hold on tonight. They would then have wins over Pac 10/12(?), Big 12, ACC, and Big East. They could also be ranked tomorrow with a win. Majerus has finally had some recrutiing classess come together and not had star players suspended. The Billikens are playing some good ball. They have been a little sloppy tonight but are doing a great job of not turning the ball over this year. They should be a top 3 team in the A10.

Im very glad dayton won

I've been contemplating my response to this game...it's one of the following 3:

1. Maybe UD won't stink this year...on account of all the old spice they just walked away with...I still believe they suck and XU beats them by 40.

2. Archie Miller is already trying to figure out where he can land and use the Lexus vs Kia comparison.

3. Screw Dayton.

This SLU team has to be a top 25 team. I havent seen many teams that move the ball as well on offense as SLU. They also play tough D. Every win has been by double digits. Their bench is contributing. It is very refreshing to see given the way SLU's offense has looked in the past. Great win by 20 points tonight over another undefeated team. Go Billikens!

Dayton being a top-75 (at least) team in Miller's first year would be inpressive. It makes you wonder how much Gregory had been holding that team back.

Losing Trevor Mbakwe certainly won't help Minnesota for the foreseeable future.

Gregory is a terrible coach. The offense for Dayton is inside out now, not the shit weave that Gregory ran.

I was very suprised they won that tourney. Also Dillard is the best PG UD has had in the last 10 years.

Early season thoughts:

SLU is better than Temple. It's Saint Louis that will fight us for the top spot in the A10. Temple will rack up lots of conference wins too, but I think SLU will be fighting for a good at-large seeding like us. I don't see any non-con losses on that schedule for them. Looks like Majerus has got his groove back. Temple, on the other hand, does not look like the top 25 team I was thinking they were.

dayton is in such better shape with Miller instead of Gregory. Perhaps the melon humpers will start reaching their potential as the program with the greatest fans and resources in the nation. Alright, we won't go that far, but I have to give credit where it's due, and they have always had the potential to be a pretty good program if they got the right coach. They may have. Beating their asses will hopefully now look better on our resume.

Think it's time for a coaching change in Rhode Island. I think the mustache and his neglect for defense is wearing his welcome.

This conference will be competitive at the top half and very weak at the bottom, but will provide us with quality competition that we'll be ready for after this next month of tough ones.

Heard he really wanted to go to X but we had no room for him.

Neither the Old Spice nor the 76 Classic had any Top 25 teams, but give credit to Dayton and SLU for taking advantage and racking up a bunch of decent wins for the conference and for their respective RPIs.

Per the A-10 board, Dayton went from something like 309 up to 51 after the tournament. 3 neutral-court games will help them immensely.

True that. As you might expect their main fan boards are full of "Sky is Falling" "Season's Over" type dread posts.

I really hate to see that happen to any student-athlete. I really do. I even felt bad for the guy from UC that had to be wheeled out of Cintas on a stretcher a few years ago. Nobody deserves that kind of injury so young in life.

I don't know if its just fan exaggeration, but they are talking career ending over on Gopher Hole, and that he could be seen crying into a towel on the bench well after the injury had occured.
