Thru Friday's games the A10 is 42-20, which is a winning percentage much greater than the conference has had in years, maybe ever. Current/accurate SOS is basically an unknown this early in the season, but it would appear the conference is beating some decent teams too.

Penn State @ St. Joseph's, 3:30 est.
Fordham @ Loyola (IL), 4:00 est., ESPN3.
La Salle vs. Rider at the Palestra, 4:30 est.
Boston @ Rhode Island, 5:00 est.
UMass vs. College of Charleston in Bahamas, 7:00 est, HDNet.
LA Lafayette @ Duquesne, 7:00 est.
Charlotte @ Wright State, 7:00 est.

I would love to see SJU and UD get some Big Six scalps tomorrow.

We need the A-10 to do very well in the non-con if we want to get a #1 seed, so that means we even have to root for Dayton and LaSalle in November and December.

SLU beat Nova, and they play Oklahoma on Sunday. They have already beat Washington too. The could be putting a resume together.

I like it when the league does well.

Kruger looks like he has Oklahoma playing well right away.

I don't give Dayton much of a chance tomorrow.

If SLU can beat Oklahoma they will be getting some votes come Monday.

As far as UD goes I don't like their chances either. I know nothing about Minnesota though.

I also would love to see Phil Marteli and St. Joes get their grove back. This league is a hell of a lot more interesting when Phil Martelli is plying his trade well, and he is also interesting to listen too.

The Non-con is when the bids are determined for a conference by and large. Having the A-10 get many bids is nice, and it would also help us get a high seed when we win it again.

F-m plays at Loyola Chicago today. I'll be rooting for Loyola. A F-m loss is a sesame seed in a bakery.

My oldest daughter and son-in-law are Loyola grads and season ticket holders. Loyola has spent big money in totally gutting and renovating Gentile Center and today is the first game in the new digs. Loyola is trying very hard to get good again by spending money and hiring a new Coach. In fact. Loyola's administration has had numerous consultations with XU and Father Graham about what to do. They are making huge moves. F- m? Not so much.

I always root for A-10 teams when they don't play us, even the dump. Not today.

Go Ramblers!!!!!

Loyola to open new Gentile Arena on Saturday
Ramblers hope rebuilt venue will give basketball program a lift

Only the name remains the same at Loyola's revamped basketball venue.

No longer an oversized high school-style gym, a dramatically restyled Joseph J. Gentile Arena makes it debut Saturday when the Ramblers host Fordham in their home opener.

Only the four original walls and ceiling were untouched during a six-month gut rehabilitation that transformed the 45,000 square foot Gentile Center into a full-fledged college basketball arena.

With top-notch amenities in the adjacent Norville Center for Intercollegiate Athletics, the combination could provide Loyola with tools to increase its stature.

"Kids love facilities and recruiting is the lifeblood of any program," first-year coach Porter Mosersaid Friday. "If you're going to turn it around, if you're going to win a championship, you have to recruit and get players.

"I think Chicago is ripe to have a team step up. To have an on-campus venue is what college basketball is all about. It makes all the difference in recruiting."

The original Gentile Center, in use from 1996 through last winter, had large decks of bleachers rising above both sides of the court and limited rows of bleacher behind each basket.

In its place is a lower bowl of comfortable chair back seats while plastic bleacher-style seating circles the upper level.

The three-story Norville Center, directly connected to Gentile Arena, opened in March and serves as home for Loyola's intercollegiate programs.

The Gentile and Norville projects are part of a five-phase, $100 million project that will add a new student union on the far North Side campus, refurbish the Halas recreation center and add a new face for the university on Sheridan Road.

That place looks tremendous. NO reason Loyola can't be the next tremendous non big 6 program. That City is there for the taking. Go Ramblers.

As expected, F-m got rolled at Loyola by 14, 64-50. I watched the game and the Lambs have nothing othe than Gaston. Loyola was undersized, but worked much harder than F-m. While I was rooting for Loyola, I was hoping for at least a glimmer of hope from the Lambs. I got nuthin'.

What bothered me more was that F-m apparently didn't care enough to even show up for a practice in the new arena the day or night before. This on a holiday from school. They only shot on the court for the first time an hour before the game. As you would expect, they came right out of the gate shooting 1-13 and fell behind by 12. Well done Pecora or well done Fordham who didn't want to spend the money to get their guys there earlier. Please, just disappear.

Looks like LaSuck will not suck today, for at least one game and Rhodee is beating the Terriers. St. Joe takes a Big Ten scalp from Penn State.

We'll see about the later games.

And right on cue, Rhodee goes in the dumper. Now trailing Boston U by 7 on their home court. BU has the ball with 2:39 left.

Edit. Game over. Rhodee blows a late second half 7 point lead and loses by 6.

Joke. Cripes Baron. Want didn't you just stay at your alma mater Olean Welding Academy?

Charlotte wins at Wright St. by 4 and College of Charleston is drilling UMess by about 20. I've watched some of the UMess game and they are awful. Kellogg is just a terrible coach.

They wound up losing by 26. Derek Breakfast Cereal has no clue. He couldn't win with players that he was left with by Ford, he can't win with players he recruited and he has no idea what style to play. I'm seeing some of the same issues with Josh Pastner, although Pastner is a better recruiter.

UMess should have known better than to take a recommendation from Slimy Calamari.

At least Dookcane came through tonight too.
