Jordan Latham's team Loyola (MD) is now 3-1 out of the MAAC.
Early season loss to Wake Forest followed by wins over: Coppin St, UMBC, and New Hampshire.
Thru 4 games the sophomore is averaging:
12 mins
2.3 points
2.3 rebounds
.5 blks
.8 steals
and a scary 3.5 fouls a game in those 13 minutes.
Rooting for the guy. Hope he continues to improve throughout his career. I always loved his "jazzy" hands when he came in the game. Those things moved around all crazy like a ninja or karate master and it always gave me a good laugh.

I believe so... I think he had family that was ill and he is the primary caregiver.

I've seen Jordan play twice so far this year. He is maybe the 2nd or 3rd guy off the bench. They are pretty good with some quality forwards ahead of him. Jordan is a little slow up and down the court and is thicker than I remember. I think the fouls are a result of not seeing enough game-time and the fast pace of the game for him right now. Overall he will be a quality contributor throughout the season and will probably start by his senior season.
While I've only seen him twice, its hard to believe that he would have ever seen much PT at Xavier. I don't see the athletic ability like Taylor or Robinson has and he isn't big enough to be a true center like Freeze. I think, however that the MAAC is a perfect conference for him. Jimmy Patsos has made a career out of taking high major transfers and he might even win the conference within the next couple of years.
About the waiver, I heard on the game telecast the other night that Jordan's father is active duty in the military (currently deployed) and he has an autistic brother so Jordan came home to help out. It's great to hear him taking care of his family and I hope he has a great career at Loyola.

I'll be rooting for him. Once an X-man, always an X-man even if things didn't work out for him here.

I went to the Loyola/Coppin St game and Jordan looked rusty. Part of it being with a new team and part of it from the fact that he hardly ever played at X. He did almost foul out in about a dozen or so minutes. Loyola has 2 forwards (Shane Walker and Eric Etherly) that are pretty good so I don't see Jordan's minutes going up unless these guys get in foul trouble. The best part of the game is to watch Jimmy Patsos go off on some player right as every timeout is called. I think he called 3 timeouts in the 2nd half of the coppin st game right after they scored and each time he screamed at one of his players. Very funny when you're sitting 10 feet away from the court.

How come so much hate for Miller and Matta but never any negativity towards Gillen and Prosser? Maybe I was just a starry-eyed youth when those 2 left and wasn't around the negativity.

I think it's the fact that both seemed to take X as far as they could before finding work elsewhere. Eventually the program hit a plateau and it was probably best for both sides when the coach left. And, when they did leave, they didn't do it in the "stick it in your ass" way that Matta and Miller did. Plus, it always seemed that Gillen and Prosser felt that X was still home. It never felt like they considered X to be a stepping stone and only left when the time was right and it was good for both sides.
It should also be pointed out that Gillen and Prosser handled their business with far more class than the M&M boys. They didn't pull a Baltimore Colts move like Matta did and they never dropped a "Lexus" comment like Miller. They had way too much respect for X...thus the reason fans always respected them.

cincy, you just opened up a huge can of worms.
Skip and Pete were old school classy dudes. They cared about more than just themselves. When they left, they did it with class. No lies, no posturing, no flip flopping. Year after year they turned down offers to stay at X. They didn't leave for just anywhere either. They left for high class institutions, not basketball factories. (Prosser shrugged off OSU interest repeatedly). They truly, TRULY loved X, and the fans knew it.
If Chris Mack leaves in five years, it won't be without me knowing he loved Xavier, and I know he will do it the right way. When the guy took his contract I believe he told Bobo he could make the buy out 100 million. I think he meant that, and would have actually signed it to coach here.
Matta and Miller did big things for our program. However, they were not true Xavier men. In hindsight, it was a shrewd move by a true Xavier man (Bobo) to make those hires. I'm glad Bobo got in professionals who could do the job. I love the Xavier program, but could give a rats ass less about those 2. They were used by Bobo to get us to where we are now, a legit final 4 contender, with a coach who already has his dream job.

Latham got the start today against Mt St Marys in the Loyola win.
2 pts though...

Latham has not played in the last 3 Loyola games. He did have 7 pts against UK back in December though!
Averaging 1.8 pts and 1.8 rbds in 12 minutes a game so far.
Loyola is 11-4.

I always thought Latham had some talent. But I heard that he was a guy who didn't want to work hard and who was a little bit of a problem when he was at X.
The fact that he's not playing for Loyola tells me a few things.

Latham sprained his ankle. He has been in street clothes the last couple of games. Got word from a Loyola official on this one.
This has nothing to do with his work ethic. Let's give the kid some slack.
FYI, I've been to multiple Loyola game this year and Skip is honored in a few places around the arena. There is even a sign with his quote "The gym is the best place you will ever be" that hangs above the alumni suite overlooking the court. He was only there for a year, but it shows you the legacy he left behind.

Latham hasn't been playing much for a Loyola team that is (15-5, 8-2 MAAC). I'm not sure if he still has injuries bothering him or if he has just fallen out of the rotation.
Anyways...
Season averages:
1.7 points
1.7 rebounds
.4 blocks
.3 steals
.2 assists
2.8 fouls
in 13 minutes a game
25% from the field. Whoa!!! (8-31)
42% from the FT line (6-14)

Jordan Latham was a Bino Ranson/Sean Miller recruit..... period.....and a miss. I would guess that Chris Mack had nothing to do with his recruitment.
He was supposed to be the next line of great Xavier power forwards. Not so much.
Just like Beaknose's miss on Church Odia, instead of nabbing Kyle Lowrey, damaged the Racoon's early tenure, the miss on Latham is certainly hurting CMack's. It appears that CMack was proactive in trying to address the miss with Andre Walker/TTaylor and Phillmore as back-up plans, just as the Raccoon was with Dupree Lucas- a junior college transfer who was eligible immediately. Unfortunately, so far, neither attempt at patchwork has worked out as well as we had hoped.
The fact remains, though that recruiting can be a crap shoot. And, again, do not believe rankings. Wow, what a surprise. Mitch McGary has dropped quickly this season. What happened to all of the recruiting gurus' such certain opinions?
Give me hard working, smart kids like David West and Jason Love any day. I sure hope that James Farr and Jalen Reynolds are in that ilk.

I know we've been down this road before, but to categorically state, 'Don't believe recruiting rankings" doesn't make sense. The recruiting rankings certainly aren't perfect but they are a decent predictor, statistically, of a player's ability. I would bet that if we look at current NBA players, there's many, many more that were top 150 recruits in high school than the so-called "diamonds in the rough."
You have to guys who work hard. But they also have to have some talent.
So given the choice between some "hard working unknown guy" who has been recruited by Drake and Jacksonville (the college not the NFL team) and a top 150 guy who was also recruited by Tennessee, Wake and NC State, I'll take my chances with the top 150 guy every time.

Gillen and Prosser didn't make the I'm not a candidate for OSU/ I'm staying at X mistakes of the Matta/Miller era.
Also, as a student I loved Skip, but it was time for something different when he left. Plus Prosser was open about always keeping a door open about other opportunities.

Jordan and Loyola (MD) are playing on ESPNU right now.
Jordan is only playing part time. He's averaging 4.0 ppg and is not rebounding well. this in a league where there are really no dominant big men.
Nope. He would have not helped.
