I'll be in the Chicago area this week, specifically Downers Grove. Does anyone know of a place where I can watch the game while there? I am sure I could watch it at just about any sports bar, but I am looking for an XU hang out, if there is one. I'd be willing to go into the city if I have to, but staying in the suburbs would be nice as I have to get up pretty early (for me) the next morning...and I am a wuss.
Any ideas?

No clue about the burbs' but if you're willing to go into the city Merkle's on Clark St., just south of Addison is an X bar. A good number of X fans go there, including a few prestigious members of this board from what I can gather.
I don't know what the scene will be like on a Tuesday night, but there may be a few degenerates from the class of 2008. I'll edit this again or bump the thread if and when I get more info on who will be going.

Definitely Merkle's at 3516 N Clark - about 2 blocks south of Wrigley field. Every Xavier game with sound and a few alums.
The exception this year is the Dec 10 crosstown shootout as Merkle's is participating in Chicago's largest pub crawl. For the shootout, the alumni will be meeting at Merkle's sister bar, Bad Dog Tavern, 4535 N Lincoln.

I was told by the fine folks at Merkle's on Friday that despite the pub crawl for the shootout, they WILL be showing the game with sound and all Xavier fans are welcome and will be let into the bar even though they are not supposed to let anyone in that's not part of the pub crawl. So keep that in mind...
As for this week I can't make it to Merkle's so I'll be at the BW's in Plainfield if you want to head further west.

I second and third the Merkle's option. If you don't want to venture into the city, there's a Champps on Butterfield just past the mall. I would call them to see if they'll show the game. I watched the the WVU NCAA awesome game there (Do it BJ!) and it was fun.

The official Chicago Chapter Event for the shootout will be at Bad Dog Tavern (Merkle's sister bar). The whole pub crawl did put a monkey wrench into the chapter's planning. Would appreciate if people get the word out and join our larger crowd at this alternate location (parking should be easier to). Yes, Merkle's has been great for Xavier fans and is the Chicago location for all other games.
We've come a long way - we have a place to call home with Xavier gear on the walls - every game shown with sound. It was a real pain a few years, calling around and worrying whether some Univ of Big Ten School's game would be on at the same time and could we even get a few TV's to show a soundless game. But then, a few years before that, it was driving around the neighborhood to find the one or two spots that the WLW radio broadcast could be picked up with minimal crackling.

It's on Time Warner channel 310 which is Fox Alternate. This is not available on DirecTV. I have sent a question to DirecTV about why they don't use the HD Fox Cincy channel in these situations because they use that for Reds HD games, why not Xavier? It just sits there as 661-1 unused, and is really irritating when the game is in HD like Morgan State was, and DirecTV still uses the SD channel..

General pat on the back...
6-8 years ago, everyone in Chicago was kind of on their own. We all had to trade e-mails and hope that we could find a friendly bartender at a crappy place like Gamekeeper's.
In the last five years, WCWIII and the Chicago Chapter has done great work helping us Chicagoans with a decent place to watch these games. You don't have to worry about it any more. I haven't been quite as regular as I was maybe 3 or 4 years ago since I became a parent...but Merkle's turned into a great home.
William's good work needs to be publicized early and often!

It's a shared bandwidth issue. The alternate channels share HD bandwidth, so the fact that 661-1 is free doesn't necessarily mean that the bandwidth is available. If DirecTV is using it on a different alternate channel, the bandwidth is not available to us. At least it's being shown, though.

I bet you the game will be shown on 661 FSN Cin. They usually show Xavier over hockey, even if it's not initially listed that way.
Also, was anyone else's picture zoomed in last game? I watched it on FSN Cin 661 and all my TV settings were correct but the picture was zoomed in, thus clipping the score at the bottom. My dad and I had to keep reminding each other what the score differential was.

I was under the impression that this was the case until our game against Morgan State, where apparently others with different providers watched it in HD. Before last week I directed 100% of my SD frustration towards Fox. Can anyone confirm that Time Warner or another provider showed the game in HD? Sorry off topic.
No idea on the game, but drive to Calistoga tomorrow and hit a tasting at Vincent Arroyo winery especially if she likes Petit Sirahs. Then drive about 10 minutes west taking too many turns to describe to Von Strasser. Both are off the main roads and both are worth it.
Call ahead, if your group is less than 5 VA is free but VS is not. VS had what was the best Cab of my trip but it was $120 per bottle which is insane.
If she likes Zinfindel, head to Elyse which is just off that western highway north of Napa but still in farm country. They had I believe 3 rated wines, tastings for 10 bucks, and slighly cheaper prices. Their Zins and their Rhone blend were fantastic.
Finally do the Del Dotto cave tour (aka Del Blotto). Skip buying anything as it is overpriced but tours are fun and you will catch a buzz.

Programming guide for Cleveland (http://www.foxsportsohio.com/04/04/11/Cleveland-Area-TV-Listings-for-the-week-/landing.html?blockID=434796&feedID=3725)
Basically UC will be on the alternate channel in cleveland with the Blue Jackholes on the main channel. Xavier will be on FoxSC... channel 320 for Time warner customers.
Channel 320 is part of a sports package which TW has allowed picking up for one day and dropping the next day where they pro-rate the monthly charge of 5 or 6 bucks to around 25 cents or something. TW carried the game against Morgan St the same way... they briefly showed the pregame show then turned off the feed on the alterante channel so you still had to have channel 320.
