As a Marshall alum (and as a Huggins hating Xavier grad) I say thank you, NKU!

NKU is still looking to go div1. Hopefully this helps their case. The new rule is that a team can't move up unless they are first invited to join a conference.
It is an exhibition game, so who knows how WVU approached it. A big loss to Xavier in a closed scrimmage, and a loss to a d2 team is not what I would call a good sign, though.

Can't help but smile at the way Huggins season is starting.
Id also love to see a Div 1 NKU.
Hey Huggins: Xavier can still best you anytime, anywhere. Cintas, fifth third, us bank arena, even out in Arizona. Now is it Bank of Kentucky center or Regents Hall we can add to the list.

The BE is looking for people to invite. Do they have a football team?

They have feelers out to four leagues. The Horizon, Ohio Valley, Summit and A-Sun. Perhaps they should look at the Big East as well.
In all seriousness, it's not quite on as big of a scale as the major conferences, but it is still the same concept. Will the full members extend them an invite and vote them in??
I think the OVC would be perfect, but I think North Alabama also wants into that league, and they have football, which NKU doesn't. As it stands now, they're adding Belmont and probably losing Jacksonville State, which would leave them at 11 members. That includes SIU Edwardsville, who is also in the transitional phase of moving up. NKU or UNA would take the league out to twelve. We shall see. I hope it works out for them.

Based on convos I had with NKU President James Votruba in the past he really wants to be in the Horizon, but I agree with you that OVC is more likely. Votruba is retiring at the end of the year and I think he wants to finalize the move to D1 as one of his last acts as President.

They MIGHT get into the Horizon. I don't know how they'd feel about an eleven team format in basketball, so they'd probably look to go out to twelve, but the HL is looking at expanding. It isn't so much for basketball as it is for baseball. They're worried about losing their AQ status and need another team.
Oakland really wants into the HL as well. They would be a travel partner for Detroit, and NKU could be with Wright State.
SOUTH: Butler, Valpo, NKU, WSU, Cleveland STate, Youngstown State
NORTH: Green Bay, Milwaukee, Loyola, UIC, Detroit, Oakland
My God that would be HUGE for NKU. They couldn't compete in the conference tournament for four years, but I do think they would be an asset to the league if it went out to twelve teams.

With ORU leaving the Summit and Valpo already gone, I have to think Oakland is looking to get off that leaky ship as well. If NKU is looking for ANY DI conference to join, the Summit would probably have them.

I don't know much about the conference stuff but WVU having a down year shouldn't be that surprising. I'd say pretty much every "big time" program tends to bottom out every once in awhile. Teams that come to mind UNC in 2002-2003, Duke in 95, UConn in 2009, UCLA 2003-2004.
