There was a reference to the Tally Ho in a another thread yesterday that made me think of some other X memories. Anybody remember Day and Night Market and Schlitz beer? How about DQ delivering to the dorms? What was the name of the bar across the street from Tally Ho? How about the original Yesterdays and Chapter 13? Twin Fair for all your shopping needs and the bakery outlet across the street from Husman?

McCarthy's pub in Mt. Adams, and ending the evening at White Castle where the UDF is now.

I remember watching TV a lot in the basement of Brockman. DQ had deliveries 24/7.
Also, how about chowing down half a dozen White Castles at $0.14/ea., and the onion rings were good too. Twin Fair was next to Kroger, and there was a cheap steak restaurant, a barber shop and a Good Year Tire store there also.

"Death Drives" to the Mount in all kinds of weather to beat the nun's curfew (12.00 midnight?) I later took up amateur racing and still never got that nervous going fast.
Brawls @ the Nebish/Varsity Mug Club with UC. BTW, nobody ever got shot or killed, fists only, and then you went somewhere else to drink after the cops got there. Grassers. .15 cent beer. The Bowling Machine @ Dana's. .10 cents. "Bolts to Florida" when it got really cold.

My former place of employment - went from bartending at Dana's to MP. The owners were great people and it was a fun bar.
I'll always have fun memories of Mt. Adams. The old Yesterday's and Chapter 13 as mentioned before, and the Pavilion, when it was new (the first time around). But my favorite today remains the Blind Lemon, especially in the fall when Walter has the fire pit roaring outside. There also was a great Italian place to the left of the entrance to the Lemon, but I can't remember the name of it.
Bob's in Norwood was otherwise a life saver, in the sense that those huge omelets enabled you to soak up a lot of alcohol before crashing for the night.

The bar across the street from Tally Ho was called "Papa John's". Naturally, no connection to the pizzza chain of the past several years.
We consumed copious pitchers of 3/2 beer there from '69-'71.

Of course the reason why Papa Johns and Tally Ho were popular was because they were very close to OLC. Giggity....girls.
Contrary to popular belief, "OLC" did not mean "Our Last Chance", but "Our Lady of Cincinnati"- later known as Edgecliff College and further later taken over by XU.

You guys are taking me down memory lane. Got a friend here in Spartanburg for the weekend who use to bartend at Chapter, and the Lemon for Walter.
I think they are reopening Chapter or Yesterday's, or one of those he said.
All of us old guys need to meet some day at an X game.
ps. and of course I've been married to an OLC girl forever.

Anybody remember the guardian of the door at Mt. St. Joseph College ? The name of the nun who had the key inserted in the lock and turned it promptly at 11:59 p.m.? Remember the irony of that name?
OK, Sister Xavier Marie, SC, nickname "Xeey"....She used to answer the phones on the floor where a girl I dated lived. There were two phones, one at one end of the long hall and one at the other...Sveral friends of mine (and I, too) had the numbers of both phones. "Hello, this is John saunders, is Maria there?
"Just a moment. Which Maria, there are several on this floow. Maria lombani?
Just a moment. The caller would then dial the other number at the other end on another phone. And the joy of running Xeey would continue untl we heard her panting. Then we'd ask for someone on another floor. We were not very nice, but those hair-raising rides out Delhi Pike were scary at times.

Spent many a late night in Bob's. I believe the Italian place next to the Lemon was Adriatico's. If my memory serves me correctly Day and Night Market was the largest single retailer of Schlitz beer in the entire country for awhile fueled almost exclusively by X students. Remember the view of the stadium as you made the slight turn on Victory below Walnut Hills HS? Ever grab a steak at the Greenwich Tavern?

Funny, I worked @ Chap XIII when it opened the FIRST time lol. Drove the afternoon bus for St X for a couple of years. Don't remember the Dean's name but was a tall lanky guy with glasses. His discipline policy wouldn't work today. Told me if kids acted up, stop the friggin' bus and "tell them to get the hell off and walk home." Lucky for them, I didn't care if they had a chinese fire drill back there.
