The women's basketball program was cited for a major violation after a former assistant coach made 176 of the impermissible recruiting calls.

The coach received a show-cause order, restricting his recruiting ability at any NCAA member school.

This is why it is so important for every individual in the entire athletic department to not only know the rules, but to be held accountible for following them.

This brings me to one of my pet peaves about our Xavier B-ball program. That is our consistant inability to KNOW whether our incoming recruits will meet the NCAA requirements for full qualification. We have had and continue to have too many cases of players being partial qualifiers. At least this year, we sent three of our recruits to prep schools, (Faar, Reynolds and Christon) but we were still left holding the bag in the case of Sim Bhullar.

It mystifies me that no one in the Athletic Dept. saw that coming or took some action to head it off at the pass.

One could also ask why we have so many recruits that fail to meet the minimum requirements. Are we setting our acedemic requirements too low? After all, college is an acedemic situation. Sports is, or at least should be made secondary to that. I know it is heresy to say that on a basketball chat board, but in reality, that truly is the case. Even though I am not a big Notre Dame fan, I do admire them for setting their acedemic entry requirements high and sticking to them.

Having said that, I do believe a case can be made for giving these youngsters a chance to rise above their current status by bring them in and requiring and helping them to succeed in an acedemic environment. Thank you Sr. Rose Ann Fleming!

I find it hard to believe that Jamelle Elliott knew nothing about this. Can someone tell me why an assistant coach would go out on his own and make all those impermissible phone calls? Something definitely stinks over in Clifton.....

That's what I thought when I saw this in the other thread - this looked like a convenient way to get rid of one of their assistant coaches who probably fell out of favor with UC.

If you're going to cheat, you'd better have a good product on the floor.
