Per ESPN.......

Delvon Roe retires, cites knee pain

Delvon Roe, the rugged forward who helped Michigan State make it to a pair of Final Fours, has decided to quit the basketball team because of knee pain.

The school said Thursday that Roe, a senior from Euclid, Ohio, will remain on scholarship and is on track to graduate in May.

The 6-foot-8 Roe says the pain in his knee has taken away his love of the game and it's not fair to his team to try and play.

Over three years, Roe averaged only 6.1 points and 5.1 rebounds, but was a stalwart in Big Ten and NCAA tournament games. He averaged 23 minutes per game in the 2010 NCAA tournament and is second in school history with 106 blocks.

This is an absolute shame.

My nephew, who now plays at John Caroll U, was a two year starter at St. Eds with Delvon. Delvon is a super kid and a good student. He'll be fine without basketball, but...

Del was a singular talent, but missed almost all of his senior year because of his knee problems. They did arthroscopic surgery on him to be sure that he would be ready for his freshman year at Michigan State. Unfortunately, this issue has become chronic.

Delvon was a sure fire pro. Now he'll be going pro in something other than basketball.

Really shitty news. My brother went to MSU so I watch a lot of Spartan basketball, and I've always liked Delvon Roe. He'll be a big loss for them.

I think he has a good future... if anyone remembers there was an article by I believe espn earlier in the year that talked about an independent movie role he was offered and took over the summer. The other actors and directors were extremely impressed with him and Roe said he had actually received more movie role offers but was afraid to tell Izzo. He didn't want Izzo to think that bball wasn't his #1 priority or have to ask him for more time away from the team. Roe probably came to the realization that his knee just wasn't going to get any better and he might have discovered what his future might hold. If he really did have those offers its probably to good to pass up because who knows if they'll come around again.
