Well, the nominations are in and some deserve it such as Guns N Roses, Freddy King, War and Laura Nyro. Then there are some who are head scratchers like Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Donna Summer, The Spinners and Heart. None of those nominees did anything influential. Heart did a couple of interesting things, but nothing Hall of Fame worthy.
Then we have a band like Rush who has been snubbed for nominations. Really? Maybe someone hates them because they are Canadian, or they pissed the music industry off by a song "Spirit of Radio" that dissed the payola in the business. Whatever, but all I know is that they have work that has stood the test of time. Hell, they deserve to be in for at least three albums- "Permanent Waves", "Moving Pictures" and "Signals" which are outstanding. Other than Cream, I can't think of a better 3 person band.
Jeezuz. Iggy and the Stooges and Patti Smith are in for much less impressive work.
C'mon Committee. Let Rush in.

While I am not a big Joan Jett fan, to say she did nothing influential is wrong. She is referred to as the "Queen of Rock N Roll" in addition to many top singles, multiple platinum albums, was included (there were like 2 women on the list?) on the Rolling Stone greatest guitarists of all time list and she started her own record label which still operates today. Not a head scratcher if you ask me.

No opinion on the Joan Jett argument, but Master, couldn't agree with you more regarding Rush. Like em or hate em, they produce an incredibly ridiculous amount of music for 3 guys. They have cemented their place in rock history. The fact that they aren't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is ridiculous....even though this isn't something that keeps me awake at night.
Induct them for Neal Peart on principle alone. I saw them in concert during their Presto tour...I mainly watched Peart. By concert's end, I was exhausted just watching him. Crazy, amazing drummer.

She has no where near the number of multi-platinum albums that Rush has, nor the longevity. THere have been many women reffered to as "Queen of Rock and Roll" by different parties.
Hell if you go by the number of albums sold, Slim Whitman should be in the Hall of Fame.
Sorry, but her biggest hit is "I Love Rock N Roll". About as simplistic as you can get with a riff that she ripped from Jimmy Page.

Very few seem to understand why Rush remains on the outside of the dark room on the lake. Politics aside, if you can't recognize their artistical brilliance, then maybe it's time to vote on food eating contests or sit on the board of the Pube Art HOF.
I mean one of the RRHOF's original displays was a 8 foot daisy chain of Pert's sticks. Cleveland helped promote Rush with Working Man on heavy loop.
It's a shame, relative to the subject. I'm sure Getty, and the team of northern Canadian elves who curl his hair each night, sleep well.

I hate Rush as a band. Can't stand listening to them. However, I can agree that they deserve to have been put in the Hall a long time ago. the fact that they can't even get nominated is laughable. Maybe they should learn from The Who and write a song about how great the RR HoF is in an effort to win over whoever's running that joint.

It's great and all that the Rock Hall is in Cleveland, but I just don't really put much stock in who is in and whatever. I also think that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame isn't that suitable of a name for it, since it's not just rock and roll acts that get in it. Maybe the Modern Music Hall of Fame? Also, judging music is like 95.7% subjective. At least with sports hallsof fame you have to have the stats to be considered. Oh well. Rush should be in.
Agree with everyone about Rush. It's a joke they aren't in. Talk about three talents. Neil Peart has like 6 arms and 4 legs, and Geddy Lee can play a different instrument with each limb while singing in an octave most 10 years olds can't hit. They'll be like Art Monk. They'll get in way, way past the point of ridiculousness. I hear they're big time assholes though, so maybe they did something to piss off someone somewhere along the line.

It's going to be weird when they're letting people like Justin Beiber and things like Lady Gaga in some day...
