The NCAA put Boise State on probation yesterday. 3 years.

From the story:

"The Boise State football program will be docked nine scholarships over a three-year period, and the athletic department must serve three years' probation as a result of widespread rules violations, the NCAA announced Tuesday.

Boise State had already self-imposed the probationary period in the wake of violations involving more than 75 prospects and student-athletes across five different sports. The NCAA added six scholarship reductions in football to the three the school had already taken away and cited the school for "lack of institutional control."

Boise State will now have its football scholarships reduced from 85 to 82 for the 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years.

In addition, Boise State also will have only nine contact practices in the spring, instead of 12, for three years. The NCAA upheld the self-imposed penalty of three fewer practices during preseason camp in 2012."

I guess I don't know what to think. If they did the crime, they should do the time, but I still can't forget that the NCAA allowed Cam Newton to play for Auburn last year.

Cam Newton get $100,000 and Auburn gets a championship, Boise State gives a player a place to sleep and gets three years probation.

One of their other violations was re-stringing the racquet of a recruit on a visit who had broken his/her strings. I think that is about $10 of a benefit to that recruit.

As if we needed further proof that college sports is a racquet.

Let's not act like the Boise State athletic program isn't at fault here. Their football team had many minor violations, but their women's tennis team had a major one. They knowingly let a women's tennis player play with the team an additional year after she had used up all of her eligibility. I know it's women's tennis, but that is a pretty big violation. There were many violations all across the board at Boise State, I think they may have gotten off easy.

Nicely done, right there.

Take that Miami football! Maybe next time you'll think twice about the consequences your actions will have on a less prestigious university!
