I am very proud to say that a kid who I coached in basketball and tutored in golf has declared a committment to the Xavier Golf Program for the Class of 2012.

Matt Gerard, who is a senior at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland and is their #1A player called me last night and told me that he had accepted a full golf scholarship to Xavier as offered by Doug Steiner. St. Iggy has a real good look at a D1 State Championship this year. I called Doug to congratulate him too.

Matt will be a freshman in the fall of 2012. Along with this year's frosh Korey Ward, Doug is building the program back to Top 20 status.

Atta boy, Matty. Lock and load, hit 'em long and go low. The next 4 years will be great.

Oh, you can use my locker in the new all weather facility at Maketewah. just leave me room for my shoes!

See, this is what's wrong with golf recruiting these days. These kids get involved with "advisors" like MOR who are only looking out for themselves. I heard this kid was a lock for Ohio State before MOR got involved!

Congrats to Matt and Coach Steiner!

When we met at that classy establishment for a beer, I remember you speaking about this young gentleman. Congrats to him, XU, and to yourself, MOR. If I could rep you, I would.

MOR: Per Korey who teams w/Dez open challenge to Matt & Jalen. I am personally concerned about your golf tutoring to a rising star, but you can lead him to Teaching Pro Joel Suggs if he needs help down here.

Seriously, it is double tough job for a northern school to build solid golf program(s); funding, facilities, recruiting etc are at big disadvantages. Matt can enjoy taking the next forward steps.

I'm calling Steiner tomorrow. This favoritism bullsh!t has to stop. Just because you actually lettered for X doesn't mean you should receive preferential treatment - actually that would be a very good reason for puffing up to you.

He promised me a plaque outside his office (probably a floor mat). I can't wait to see him again!

Hey, Dash. First of all it's 4 Letters, including a navy blue blanket with white bordering and the "X" in the middle. They don't give those out anymore.

Lastly, I'm paying dearly for that locker with my name on it!!!! No preferential for me buddy. It's all about the Benjamins.

If anyone else wants to pony up to get their name memorialized in the new facility, I'm sure that Doug will take your check.

Well, there you go. You handed him a check and I handed him a commitment letter.

It's okay MOR, the fact that you lettered at X in golf should give you some upper-uber standing.

it also explains why I am never in the MOR foursome for AFO. My game is on another level from MOR's.
