In short, Bruce Pearl gets a 3 year show-cause penalty from the NCAA and his assistants all got 1-year show-cause penalties. It's more of a death sentence in terms of ever getting another high-profile job in the NCAA.
In other words, he'll probably wind up at a D-2 or D-3 school like Jim O'Brien or take a professional coaching gig somewhere else (for whatever's left of the NBA this season).

Good. and well deserved.
Pearl is a jerk.

Truth.
Especially for a guy who defined his career early on by turning in other assistants for alleged cheating. Jimmy Collins has to be popping a celebratory champagne bottle somewhere out there.

Brucie was on 790 in Atlanta this morning, and he said that time would heal all wounds and that we haven't heard the last of him. In his words, he is the guy that UT fired for now. When basketball resumes, he will become the ex-coach of UT, and people will focus more on his accomplishments rather than his problems.
I suppose that there will always be a UT El Paso that is willing to take a shot with a guy like Pearl, but I think he is toast with the major programs.

For all the sins that Mike Price and Tim Floyd (he may have coached UTEP at one point) have committed, I don't believe they ever had show-cause penalties like Pearl and Jim O'Brien.

I can't believe the school dodged bullets for both football and basketball. They only got slapped on the wrists.

I'm more surprised that Kiffin wasn't punished for his transgression over at UT. Pearl, Kiffin, and the former AD are all gone, so when you add 2 years probation and recruiting restrictions for Derek Dooley and Cuonzo Martin's staffs (who didn't break the rules), I'm not sure how much more punitive the NCAA could have been towards Tennessee.
Ohio State, meanwhile, has already gotten rid of Tressel, but as long as Gene Smith and Gordon Gee are still in roles of authority there they could be subject to further sanctions down the line. The beauty part for Ohio State is that they'll likely get their ruling from the Infractions Committee just in time for Michigan Week.

It became very clear he was doing that to get a leg up, not to do the right thing.

The violations in and of themselves weren't that serious, at least not in the eyes of the NCAA. Pearl lying, on the other had, was considered very serious.
Had they not fired him, it would have been much worse.

Has his wife posted anymore Facebook updates about Pearl being a crucified Jew just like Jesus?

WOW!! I missed that one.
Jesus never committed any recruiting violations that I know of. The rules are tricky, though. Maybe he had a few inadvertent violations.

The Life of Brian clip was an excellent inclusion.
