I guess the strung out bitch shoulda went to rehab....

Too many chemicals = not a good thing.

She was no Elvis, Kurt Cobain, or Jim Morrison....she was a junkie who got a lucky break or two. If you didn't see this coming, you just weren't paying attention.

If you had Amy Winehouse in the Xavierhoops Death Pool...you win a stuffed blue blob!

Muskie- Send them their prize!!

The stories I was reading said she joined the "27 Club" with Cobain, Morrison and Hendrix. Yeah, but she was none of those. Winehouse couldn't compete with the real 27 Club

Always sorry to see a life end, but still, no one was shocked by this. She needed help and everyone knew it. It just wasn't enough.

While she may have only had one real record, her influence on the music scene is greater than what you guys give her credit for. As the Washington post article that Nuts linked to mentioned, she paved the way for the likes of Cee Lo Green and Adele to hit it big with their recent albums. Winehouse wet the fans' lips with what was a rather unique mix of R&B and soulful jazz that Green, Adele and I'm sure others will build upon.

Either way, there is something to this 27 club. It includes a number of musicians, not just the big four. Justin Bieber better watch out.

Cee-Lo was a pretty good rapper for awhile with Goodie Mob. "Dro in the Wind" with Trick Daddy is still a classic (I know I'm using the term classic pretty liberally here).

They were going through the list of musicians who passed away at 27 this morning on the radio... an impressive list of talent (Hendrix, Morrison, Cobain, Mama Cass.. just to name a few).

Edit*

Damn it. Titan beat me to the punch.

That is a great hip hop song, love it, very under rated.

Cee-Lo was doing popular music way before Amy Winehouse... wasn't he?

Cee Lo's had an interesting career. He was a rapper early on with Goodie Mob and attempted a couple of solo funk/soul/R&B albums that tanked. He then created Gnarls Barkley about the same time Winehouse released her second album, the one that hit it big. He finally had his first successful solo album with Lady Killer last year.

Yeah... guess i'm thinking of him more in a producer role before that.

He was also featured in an episode of that Sweet 16 show on MTV where the rich kids bitch and moan to their parents about having the best sweet 16 birthday party ever. His daughter seemed like a real c**t.

I didn't think she needed help. It appeared to me she enjoyed doing drugs very much, and didn't believe she had a problem. If someone doesn't understand there is a problem, she won't accept help if it was offered (and I am sure it was).

This was a woman who enjoyed a number of dangerous drugs, and was fine with her intake. She sang a song how she would "say no, no, no" to rehab. If this was the case, I assume she is happy with her life and the course she has charted.

She was a crazy wench who loved drugs. People who love drugs this much, also tend to die young. This tragic story was written long ago, and we now have the final chapter and know how it ends.

Godspeed Amy Winehouse! Go to the big crack den in the sky!

So am I correct in understanding that you are predicting J-Bieb to go at 27? Interesting. Well folks, assuming this site is around that long (and I'm around that long) then I'll take that cash!

Granted, I wasn't around back then, but I would compare her career more closely to Janis Joplins in that her time in the spotlight was very short and her influence may not be properly assessed for years to come.

I thought she actually spent time in rehab so at some point she had to realize she had a problem. She just couldn't figure out how to fix it. I've heard her described as funny and sweet by those that knew her. While her death is too expected to be truly tragic, it is no less sad and my heart goes out to the people that cared for her.

Must be a generational thing. Nothing annoys me more than Janis Joplin's voice.

Rolling Stone had her 28th recently on their list of the 100 Greatest Singers ever, so guess you're in the minority with the Biebs and Britney.

Definitely sad. Addiction is a beast.

That being said, I've never understood her musical appeal (or Janis Joplin). I thought "Rehab" was sort of cool in a meta way. Now it's just sad.

Back to Black was a pretty great album. There's some amount of talent to create something like that. She's certainly not just a media invention.

Elvis, Kurt Cobain, and Jim Morrison were not junkies????!!!!

you can make a good argument that they were overrated hacks who got a few big breaks.

I'll certainly give it a listen.

This is a stone jam. She was super-talented, but I didn't like most of her crapolla that she ended up putting on albums.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Slow down there slugger. If I ever saw Justin Bieber or Britney spears in person I would punch them in the sack. Me, I'm a Kings of Leon, Black Keys kinda guy.

Strip away the mythology and Jim Morrison flat out sucks. I much prefer the work of Eddie Wilson.

He had a few gems, but was mostly zeitgeist and stage persona and infamy. He churned out a lot of crap.

The Doors discography is pretty thin, and like any group there are some serious misses, but the classic tunes are still solid today. Apples to apples (morrison to winehouse) Amy Winehouse was not rhyming mire with pyre at any point in her short career.

Jim Morrison wasn't nearly as vocally talented as Winehouse (in fact, he really didn't have that great a voice) but he obviously had a lasting effect. I suspect that Winehouse may be appreciated more over time, posthumously, like many others. She did have a damn good voice before her addictions took over.

definitely. The mythology is childish (also for Cobain!!!, but at least he wasn't such a attention horror as Morrison).

The rest of the band was good though. Definitely had a cool, unique sound. I still get pumped when I hear LA Woman.
