Former UC basketball player pleads guilty
Former University of Cincinnati basketball player Anthony Buford, 42, and Jolie Neal, 47, both of Mason, pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to conspiring to defraud lending institutions out of nearly $2.8 million.
The duo obtained mortgages on three properties they owned and instead of paying off existing loans, kept the money, according to court documents.
At the time, Buford worked as a mortgage broker for Dynus Financial Services, which had offices in Bond Hill and Fairfield. Neal owned Tri-State Title Company.
The single count of conspiracy to commit mail, wire and bank fraud carries a maximum prison sentence of 30 years, a hefty fine and mandatory restitution. U.S. District Court Judge Sandra Beckwith will set a date for sentencing.
