Was going through Blackburn Review, because honestly, it's a damn good site. Reading through the comments on the story about Staten going to WVU, and someone posted what Searcy said on his Facebook regarding Juwan... I'm posting this from what was posted on BR:
"Bro screw everyone else... Go somewhere and develop and go get your paper... You can never please everyone. You'll die trying. So let some of the harsh UD fans go play in traffic... Because they'll never understand. Take it from a G that's been there. UD has great fans however they can be the meanest, most ignorant individuals walking the face of the Earth..."
I know we have some fans like that too..but hell, this just has me cracking up.

Coming from one of their own "beloved" players, that's a huge statement. Granted most of the "sweater vests and blue wigs" (as BBR puts it) don't read the Review or even pay attention to stuff like this. They would just say Searcy is being an ingrate and then call him all kinds of horrible names.
It's cool though, as long as the vast majority of our fans and players don't have this kind of interaction, I'd say we'll be fine. Granted we actually win and we aren't frustrated by bad coaching or moronic players (and their overbearing fathers), so I think we continue to win in this area and many others.

Ya I remember reading his facebook wall like a week after Gregory left for Georgia Tech. Fans started speculating on his facebook wall that he was going to stay. He immediately said no and those same fans started ripping into him.
That fan base is simply incredible.

I think that's typical of any fan base.

Agreed. The things I've heard shouted at Xavier players from Xavier fans at Cintas would stun.

This may just be me, but I don't want to claim those people as "fans". These are 18-22 year old kids, that's just uncalled for and wrong no matter what fanbase it is.

No, they're actually middle-aged assholes. Well, at least the ones I've heard.

It wasn't a coincidence that Phil Martelli was calling out Xavier fans after the '04 classic in Cintas. Yeah, it ultimately bit him in the ass a couple of months later, but he was right - some of our fans are spoiled asses who have nothing better to do than to berate student-athletes as opposed to paid professionals.
As Mike Gundy said, "If you go after one of my athletes, go after one that doesn't do the right things."

I meant the athletes are the 18-22 year olds. No matter what, everyone should know better, but shame on the middle-aged and older assholes who act like that. Just bullying all over but at a worse level.

God how I wish Xavier fans would get over the booing incident of '04. Martelli was dead wrong about calling out our fans for something so minor as booing, while he kept his mouth shut about his own fans later when they were throwing bottles on the floor and Matta moved his team off the court. Matta didn't sit on any high horse, because fan behavior at Xavier, SJU, and Xavier is basically tame.
