SEC athletics directors followed the lead of their basketball coaches and approved a plan that will scrap the league's two-division format, beginning next season.
...
Kentucky coach John Calipari said scrapping the two-division setup would enhance the SEC's ability to attract at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament. The East-West imbalance often leads to wins over weaker division foes to be diminished by the selection committee. Last season, five teams from the SEC East reached the NCAA Tournament, and none from the SEC West.

In case you missed it, the SEC ended up being the #1 recruiting conference according to Rivals this year with 5 teams in the Top 12. I haven't been to an SEC game not involving Xavier in 5 or 6 years, but that may change this year. I think they are going to have a lot of really good teams.

True, but I'll still have to believe it when I see it. It seems there are always a couple SEC teams who get top 10 classes and still vastly underachieve. I think there's something to be said about playing for a program at a basketball school, and the SEC doesn't have many of them. Maybe Anderson will get things going at Arkansas soon and maybe the Miss St.'s of the world will stop underachieving. Certainly the talent is going to be there, but I always have my reservations about expecting too much from the SEC.

Many of the teams have been gosh awful lately, but I think a lot of teams have good reason to be optimistic. UK and UF have just reloaded. Grant is legit. Bama will be good. Anderson will give everyone fits. UT is the only teaming going backwards, and yes, MSU will be the most likely to underachieve again. They will have the talent to be great, but Stansbury will do his bit to negate that talent.
