View Full Version : UD Fans - Delusional Can't Begin to Describe It

A low-key Sunday on a long weekend and a bad pang for anything Xavier basketball in May leads me to wonder into that funny farm that is known as UDPride.
I then read this:
"Where Philmore made his mistake is in accepting X's past success as being in stone for the future. Personally I do not think Mack is in the same category as Thadda and Sean Miller.
Mack went to the sweet sixteen with a transfer that fell in his lap. Last second heroics against Dayton at Cintas center making a trey to tie the game (because BG does not believe in fouling in that situation), a 25 point blowout at Dayton and again last second dumbness whereby UD got a technical practically handing X the game in the A-10 tourney and Mack was lucky he was not swept by the flyers that year.
Fast forward this year without Crawford they are one and done in the A-10 and in the NCAA tournaments.
I think we are closer than one may think and I like Archie's comment "I'm targeting Xavier..."
Time will see how all this plays out."
The bottom-line: he doesn't think Mack is a good enough coach to sustain Xavier's success. I didn't know that wishful thinking, or simple, pure stupidity was capable of generating such a post.
BTW, this post came in their thread about them losing Philmore to us.
What this poor bastard sees as the beginning of the end actually is an acceleration of sustained success, because of Mack.
Gentlemen, please always remember that we were lucky we weren't swept by UD a couple years ago. That was the year we beat them 2 out of 3.

I thought of typing something along the lines of "Let's see...one and done in the NCAA tournament or one and done in the NIT?" but I think Xavier's expectations these next few years, especially next year, are much bigger than UD can dare to dream. If their squad of walkons led by Raccoon JR lose by less than 20pts to X I will be surprised.

It's annoying how some college basketball fans only focus on the NCAA tourney.
Mack did a masterful job coaching last. Just ridiculous how awesome he did. There's a reason why Tennessee offered him millions.
In defense of UD fans, that post was an outlier. Most UD fans realize that Mack is a good coach.

Exactly. After losing Crawford, Redford and Martin I didn't think Xavier had a chance to even make the NCAA tournament this year and I'm usually an optimist. They made the tournament easily with a seriously depleted roster. That is to Mack's credit.

"Not sure where info came from but heard it more than once...Dillard was best player on team this past season."
"JS transfering is addition by subtraction and I don't think it will take too long before KD makes all of us forget about that mess. In fact, as has been mentioned by others...CJ and PW should/could also benefit from playing with a talented PG that doesn't have an agenda."

If by "adversity," you mean losing one conference game and receiving a 6 seed in the NCAA tournament, only to play poorly and lose, you are correct.

I'm not really into going to other teams' message boards unless there's something drastic going on that's Xavier-related, but based on what I've seen of the daytonites, mostly from this board, the initial thing drives me nuts. I swear to God it's like reading Japanese sometimes, and what's most annoying is that if you are trying to decipher anything in the text, you have to stop, think, and translate initials to the names of whatever crappy dayton player they're referring to. The other thing that amazes me about it is that every single one of them do it. Every one of them. I understand you'll see an occasional JC for Jordan Crawford or LC for Lionel Chalmers around here, and I've probably done it myself, but with those guys, initials are the ONLY way they write a name. I mean how much more damn effort does it take to write "Chris Wright" than it does to write "CW?" It's lazy as shit, and given how irrelevant almost every name they initial is, it'd be easier reading Pig Latin half the time. It's so amateur, which is to say it is so dayton.

The funniest thing about Wright is that some UDpriders still think he will be in the NBA next year. One person even went as far as to say that they hope he goes undrafted because then he can choose his situation and he could really thrive in a system with someone like Steve Nash at the PG position. I just dont understand where they come up with this stuff.

Never thought about that aspect of Bellarmine winning that game. So, at least there was one positive to come from it: Bellarmine now joins the esteemed crowd including Southern Utah, Duquesne and LaSalle that have all won at Xavier since the last time Dayton managed to pull that off.

Here is a classic delusion filled post from a UD fan on UDPride:
Posted by Avid Flyer:
Mack took a top 15 program predicted to be a final four team and barely made it into the NCAA tournament. Dayton choked in the final minutes of play as did ND allowing X to get to the sweet 16. In my personal opinion Mack is not made from the same pedigree as his predecessors and will falter. His success was in having a couple top transfers land in his lap.
Archie inherited a team with two players transferring out, two recruits reneging on their commitments and the loss of Benson and yet came within a couple points in dethroning X, won 20 games and despite the loss of JT has a very good nucleus coming in next year.
Bottom line Archie achieved more with far less and Mack achieved far less with a lot more. Future, advantage Archie and Dayton.

04-13-2012, 08:11 AM
That is absolutely unbelievable.
First round NIT embarrassment > Yet another Sweet 16.
They have a strange way of measuring success in Dayton. Two players transfer? They hated Staten and Spearman averaged two points a game. I like how he fails to mention that their best player - by far - was a transfer.

Dayton fans live in an alternate reality. Absolutely nothing that comes from a UD fan surprises me. We've been hearing how they've been passing Xavier for 20 years and they continue to fade away further in the rearview mirror. Their hatred for Xavier is purely jealousy over the success Xavier has had that they wish they were having. Their warped view points on their successes (failures) compared to Xavier are hysterical and I almost feel sorry for them. They are such an easy target it's like picking on your kid brother when you're growing up.

Fear doesn't have to be rational, though. You can have rational, cognizant fear where you recognize a threat and intelligently plan to avoid it, or you can have the primal, gut reaction fear of threatening rustle moving through the grass or the things that go bump in the night.
