By the way, those 3 games are the only thing that you mentioned that means anything this year. Most posters weren't even living when most of that stuff happened.

I was fortunate to see games in 3 of the 5 Reds WS wins. As far as Baseball History goes, I only remember the Giants won last year. Could careless who had more fans or titles in 1908.

I'll quote Mark Mcguire: I don't want to talk about the past.
I'll bet the Cards took more all-time walks too, but at least it's real baseball.

Cards fans, unlike dayton fans, have recent success to point to.

Reps to you MHettel. Being a history major, I enjoy that kind of stuff. Who cares how pertinent it is to this season. I remember as a child, revering such Cardinal greats as Stan Musial, Enos Slaughter, Red Schoendienst, and 'Mr. Shortstop' Marty Marian. I actually had a Marty Marion glove.
Having said all that, I am, and always have been a Reds fan, but as a kid, my favorite team that was not the Reds, was the Cardinals.
Go Reds!
GO MUSKIES!

The Reds and Cards have a lot of links. Especially with the Castellinis and Dewitts.
I believe Bill Dewitt was a batboy for the Eddie Gaedell game back when Veeck was running shenanigans for Cleveland and Dewitt's dad owned the team.
Bob Castellini, as opposed to prior ownership, has a lifelong passion for the game. This is no small variable for an owner.
And of course there are the frequent observations that the people of each city share similar sensibilites, as well as humidities.
My dad took us to Reds games back in the 70's and the lowly 80's. But he also grew up in columbus when that was a Cardinals minor league town. Harry the Hat Walker and Enos Country Slaughter. A host of others. I believe Brach Rickey was g.m. there in the early to mid-30's. Apropos since he, like my dad, was an OWU man.
I respect the baseball loyalty and acumen of Card fans. I read Posnanski's The Machine and was surprised that the Reds aren't the traditional draw you might think they are. It's the usual spike in season tickets after a playoff year and returns to previous levels after that. Or a spike when you have a novelty of a new stadium.
Frankly, I'm tired of it. If Reds fans want to go out and buy a Matt Holiday for the pennant run then go to the games.

Perhaps, but this thread doesn't point to that recent success, unless you are the living Jesus. The purpose of this thread was to minimize the 3-game sweep in 2011 by reminding Reds fans that St. Louis has enjoyed more success in the past 130 years.
The information in and of itself is interesting. But it has nothing to do with the sweep earlier this month.
Therefore....Holy Dayton Argument.

Gaedel appeared for the St. Louis Browns. Veeck owned the team.

Thanks for the correction, it was indeed the Browns. With Bill Dewitt Jr. as batboy. BTW,
"Veeck as in Wreck" is a terrific biography. I read years ago that they were going to make a film and Bill Murray was attached to the project. Never came to be.

That is an awesome book. Veeck was a real original.

Chalk up another 90 win season and playoff appearance for the Redbirds.
And, another sub .500 seasons for the Little Red Machine.
