I hate Sean Miller.
I'd like him to go bcuz:
1. Az will lose a Top 5 recruiting class.
2. Parrom and Kyrl will get screwed.
3. Pastner would be the obvious successor so he'll lose all his recruits.
4. I believe Brown would have stayed if Miller did, giving us Tu, Brown, Love, Mclean, Crawford for the Final Four we never got to.

LOL! You know it was horrible for us, but that's like a huge middle finger to Az if he leaves after only 2 seasons with all he has going for him there. If true, you sir($ean), suck.

Sean definitely left himself room for improvement with the Lexus comment. He may even leave Maryland (Bently) for a Rolls Royce (Pitt?) here soon enough.
I think Sean just gets tired of staying in one place (assuming he takes off).

Sean is an east coast guy. He turned down Zona once before they sweetened the pot which he couldn't refuse. Sean has also donated 250K of his own money to refurbish the Arizona locker rooms. He needs to do whats best for his family here and if that means taking a job closer to his roots so be it. Now Arizona fans knows what it feels like to be Xavier.

It would appear that Miller has commitment issues. I wish I could feel sorry for Arizona (because it would be the Christian-ly thing to do), but I don't. He's leaving a trail of bitter, bitter fans all around the country.

Is this serious? If Miller leaves to Maryland, it's because he wanted that job. I don't know if anyone really thought he would be at Arizona for ever, after all people knew he was an east coast guy. If Maryland would have opened up the same time Arizona did, I would have bet a lot of money on him going to Maryland instead. I don't know why there should be some rule of him having to stay at Arizona for so long, if a better job(in his opinion) opens up.
I don't know, I think I'm one of the few Xavier fans who actually wishes Sean and Thad luck, unless they are playing us. Those guys are great coaches, and have really helped our program.

That is not true. Don't buy into the "Maryland can't pay" rumors because they're false. Kevin Plank of Under Armor and Steve Bisciotti, the Ravens owner, are just two of the boosters of the program. The boosters know how important the next move is for the program and they will spring up, believe that. If it takes more money than Sean is getting paid at UA to get him to UMD, they'll make it happen. Maryland can and will pay Miller.

Sean and his family don't want to be in Tucson. He left Xavier for big money, but he when he goes to Maryland it will not be about money.

I'm sure maryland fans are pissed at Miller. But coaches do this sort of thing all the time.
Even Skip did this at Wake to get a nice extension (using the opening at Pitt, I believe).
Luckily here at X, we don't have the cash to be used as a bargaining chip.
Miller is in a great position right now at Arizona. He is paid well, he has the new car smell still meaning he can't do too much wrong in the eyes of the fans or administration and finally he can wait out less than premier jobs until one actually does open. When that time comes, Miller will leave to go back East.
If Sean is going to get a raise at Arizona everytime a job opens up, I would apply for it.

Sounds like he is a great negotiator to me. I am amazed at the amount of bitterness on this board. How naive are you guys, anyway?
This is the real world we are talking about, not some fairy tale. The man has the right and, I think the responsibility to his family and himself to persue his dream of being at the very apex of his profession, and if that means leaving a job every two years, so be it.
Wow, I am amazed at the immaturity (yes, immaturity. Don't try to pass it off as righteousness or morality or ethics or some other euphorism) that is on display here. For crying out loud, live and let live!
While Sean and Thad were here, they gave us their all, and it was a darn good 'all' at that. Now they are gone. Get over it!
We still have a great program and another in a long line of great coaches. Let's put our energies in positive reinforcement of them.

It's sort of alarming that my gut instinct is to still feel anger towards Miller. As Benxman notes, it really isn't rational or mature. I know for a fact that Sean deeply loved X and it was a brutal decision for him to leave.
It's just one of those odd dynamics in life. When a college coach leaves, the anger lingers regardless of how unreasonable it is.
Anyways, we don't know if Sean used Maryland merely as a bargaining chip. Sean wasn't exactly smooth when he was deciding if he wanted to go to Arizona. Maybe he's just bad at this sort of thing.
But who cares if he did. It's a tool that every prominent coach uses once or twice in their career to improve their contract (even Coach K used the Lakers opening to sweeten his contract....who knows how many times Izzo has done it).

If Sean had been at Arizona for 5 or more years he probably would've taken the Md. job. He owes Arizona more than 2 years for the amt. of money they gave him. If Turgeon doesn't get it done which I doubt he will Md. will be open again in 5 years and Sean can make the move then.

It wasn't about money for him and there were other things that needed to be worked out. Sean is being demonized and that isn't even remotely true. PM me and will give you extra information if you'd like to know some of the other details. Believe me, Sean had a right to be pissed, and consider taking a job that he had always coveted in the first place.

Here's how the telephone conversation went:
Greg Byrne: Hi, Coach
The Raccoon: Hi, Greg.
GB: So what's the story? You wanna go to MD?
R: Well, they've made me a lucrative offer, and, you know they're in the ACC, and they are really close to New York where Book can get all kinds of talent, and they've won a National Championship not too long ago....
GB: Ok, ok. Is that all?
R: Well, it's in the east. Amy hates it out here and she cried for a month when she had to leave her family way behind to come out here to this Gawdforsaken desert. If I don't take this Maryland job, she'll bawl like a Banshee again for weeks. It's the offseason and I'm stuck in the house. I can't take it.
GB: Oh...
R: Ok, here's a deal. You give me a big enough raise so that I can buy three new houses out here- one for my parents, one for Amy's parents, and one for Archie where he can live after getting fired from the dump. At least that way, her family can be here while I'm off coaching......oh...and add another quazillion dollars a year- just for grins.
GB: Uh, ok.

I have heard from multiple sources, that Amy does not like AZ. I wouldn't be surprised if Sean left at some point but he also knows he has a pretty good team next year and good classes coming in. MD will require more time for Sean to turn it around. This is why he stayed, in my opinion. That and some more dough.

I got to say, I hope these, "I heard Amy doesn't like Arizona.." statements are put to rest. Obviously it's not a factor at all.
If at the end of the day, Sean's assistants are getting paid, and he isn't, Amy ain't getting anything either out of this deal.
So if she does actually hate Arizona, it's probably behind 3 million other reasons why they would leave. Because at it was shown earlier, Sean ain't leaving Zona because Amy has some allergy problems.

Wow, what an intelligent post. All SM did was elevate this program to new heights with the most successful tenure in XU histoery. Then as if this is a free country, he had the gall to go to a program which has won a national championship, been to several final fours, offers unlimited resources, and plays in a top 4-5 leauge. Oh the horror!
I dare say many on this board including myself have leveraged current jobs to get a more desirable one, probably multiple times. However, GG, making fun of his physical appearance and possible signs of emphysema adds sooooooooooo much to this discussion.
BTW, I'm sure you look like an Adonis with Tiger's blood, so why don't you post pictures of yourself, and/or provide a link to one of your home movies? While you are at it, why don't you also show us the results of your last physical, including your height-weight, bp and cholesterol readings? This will remove all doubt that you DO NOT live in a glass house.

For the record, we're all mostly dudes here. Guys make fun of eachother's weight. I'm pretty sure my good friends (Not Amex) call me slow and fat from time to time. No denying it there. I return the follow and inform them that at least I have a splendid beard and their pre-pubescent body can't produce a good face-warmer.
As for GG, this sounds like a ploy to secretly check him out and get the goods on him. Well, I'll tell you this... I had the pleasure of meeting him briefly. I was leaving the Xavier gathering before the Marquette game as he seemed to be coming in. He certainly looked like he could run the mile in a respectable time, and more so, he appeared to want to buy me a beer (though seeing as I was leaving, I could not oblige him). I'm sure that he'll do so next time we meet, but the quality of his character and his physical abilities are a lot less in question than mine... Well, minus the whole beard situation. MAN UP and grow it out!

"But sources familiar with the talks provided the following details:
Before the Las Vegas meeting, Maryland and Miller's representatives had discussed, in the words of one source, "what it would take to get him [to College Park]."
In multiple phone calls, the parties laid a groundwork in advance, discussing salary, Maryland basketball's budget resources and other items. But Anderson and Miller did not meet until they got to Las Vegas, where Miller was attending a Nike basketball clinic.
Among the issues discussed were Maryland's academic admissions criteria for athletes. But it was quickly apparent at the meeting that there was not enough comfort level to proceed."
Hmmm. So the two parties discussed details such salary, basketball budget and other items BEFORE ever meeting, yet the meeting still took place. And there will still be those here who think Miller never had any interest in the job (many of whom are the same UA fans who all but packed his bags for him the night before.)

So, I guess that means that the racoon can get anybody he wants in school at AZ, but Maryland may have been a little more stringent. How Thuggins-esque.
This sounds to me like the word "student" in student-athlete isn't on black-eyes high list.

He had interest in the job, we knew that from the start. However, there were some things that could have been done before Maryland opened up that would have locked Sean up and kept him happy. Those things are now fixed and he is remaining at Arizona. Believe me, we were our own worst enemy in this ordeal. Arizona is actually good school, you can't just get anybody in there. Look at what happened with Brandon Jennings. ASU on the other hand...
