Well, the hiring of Dan Hoard as the Bengals play by play guy.

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20110505/SPT02/305050085/

This now means I will only check the Bengals score on the Internet.
Not just because Hoard is the voice of sUCks.....because he is a terrible announcer.
Worst professional organization hires a terrible play by play guy. Not surprising.
Thank gosh I've given up my season tickets. What a joke.

Not a fan of Hoard...everybody always says he should get a chance because he's such a "great guy". Just seems too "straight and narrow" in the booth for me....kind of "howdy doody" like.

Lap's still there...so that's good.

It looks like one of the reasons they wanted Hoard from that article was that they also wanted someone who would be a more frequent contributor to the website. That wasn't possible with Brad Johansen since he was (and is) the full-time sports director at Local12.

Translation: Johansen isn't going to play the cheerleader/mouthpiece of the Bengals, but apparently Dan Hoard will. I don't have any qualms as to Hoard's professional ability, but apparently Johansen had finally got tired of the Mike Brown syndrome.

I doubt the switch was made because they wanted a guy that could write a blog too. That's just the cover story.

I'm sure you'd get a much different reason from Brad himself (and probably Lap too).

I like Brad Johansen. I wonder why exactly that move went down.

Hoard wanted the Reds play by play job. No doubt he was eager to do more work outside of UC.

Paul Daugherty, who sucks, claims that the switch might have had to do with Johansen's questions at a press conference at the end of last season so they wanted someone who wouldn't rock the boat.

That sucks.

I thought WLW had control. So the Bengals have some say?

* DAN HOARD. I left him a v-mail on his cell yesterday, after the news hit he’d be replacing B. Johansen on Bengals radio. I told him I didnt know whether to offer congrats or condolences. Dan’s a very, very good broadcaster who should have gotten a seat next to Marty. He had shown in pinch-hitting stints in the booth he was ready to go voice to voice with The Famer, no easy feat.

And I have absolutely no inside info on this. But I do wonder if Johansen’s pointed (and warranted and good) questions to Lewis and Brown during that horrific February press conference had anything to do with his exit. Mike does not tolerate dissent among those he can control. He can control who’s in his radio booth.

Beyond that, I thought Brad did a nice job, and screamed sufficiently hysterically for every Bengals triumph, no matter how small.

As for my pal Dan… I do hope he retains his acute sense of professionalism in the booth, while also keeping the gig as long as he wants it. Doing both isnt easy in Bengaldom.

Hoard was terrible for the Reds. Kelch is much, much better.

I don't want to sound like a homophobe, but Hoard's voice is a little too feminine for me. Anyone else agree with this? I would actually say gay (not that there is anything wrong with that)
Also, I occaisionally would listen to snipets of his uc broadcasts. He really hit a nerve when he would go ape over lance stephenson and use the "BORN READY" nickname every time L.S. would make a basket.
Oh well, one more reason to not even listen to bengal games.
BTW: I don't think Joe Sunderman gets enough credit. He does an awesome job!

A second-rate announcer for a second-rate pro sports franchise. Seems like a perfect fit to me.

Mike Brown (and Vince Cicero) screwed the pouch AGAIN!

But pretty much Mike Brown.

Hoard? C'mon.

Paul Keels is a good announcer but I hate Oh-ho-ho State. I was never a big fan of Kentucky but Cawood Ledford was classic.

Dan Hoard sucks. Pure and simple. has nothing to do with SucKS. I've listened to him and Machock and their broadcasts are embarrassing. I've heard better guys on high school games.

Hoard doing NFL games means that the Benglas have the worst play by play guy in the league- hands down.

I must be hearing something else b/c I think Hoard is way better than Brad. The Bengals should have done this years ago. Hoard is a pro, prepared and always calls it straight away.

Anymore, I turn mute on when Brad and Steve do Xavier games. If I have to hear him say the phrase "let's fly" a million times over, no thanks.

Gotta go with the peanut gallery that this move was a bad one. Brad was rough to listen to early on, but has really gotten better over the years calling football and basketball games.

I'd take Joe and Byron over anyone else doing Xavier games, except for Andy Mac, of course, but Brad is much better than any of the yahoos we get from the A-10 network.

While we are sort of on the subject, I can't stand Marty Brenneman. He takes the fun out of baseball. He's bitter and cranky. I don't understand the love for him.

Yawn. If you are going to be a jackass, at least be clever.

Back on topic, I listen to both Bearcat and Bengal games on the radio. Hoard is knowledgeable and does a nice job, but I'd rather listen to Brad. Better voice, better calls.

Are you serious? Is this a new anti-Marty movement? What the hell?

Yeah, he started getting on my nerves a long time ago. No biggie. Hope he's not a relation or anything. If that's the case I take it all back.

I'll admit that Marty's hard to listen to when he's in bitchy-old-man mode, but in no way is a bad announcer.

Nah, it's cool. I'm just a big fan of Marty. Probably my provincial Cincinnatism taking over.

IMHO, Joe Nuxhall sucked too.

just joking, never heard him. I'm sure he's vastly overrated because that's what Cincinnati does to their heroes.

I agree with this completely. Marty is a good announcer but has too much crankiness and entitlement for my taste.

As for this topic, I really liked Brad and am sad to see him go, but I am in the minority group who thinks Hoard is a good announcer. I listen to a lot of UC games and really enjoy him (not so much Chuck....not at all). I don't dislike this move at all....

To be honest, I am not much of a fan of Lapham....

I know, I am a terrible Cincinnatian

I love Marty but can see how some don't care for his cantankerous side. My favorite segment is when he has Sheldon or The Bank President on.
