Without Kevin Anderson we will see how good they are next year. Hopefully for their sake they didn't get fooled like Dayton and sign a contract that is way too long.

I think Mooney is actually a pretty good coach. Don't know if I've ever thought that about Gregory.

Mooney probably used the offers by other schools as bargaining chips and made the point that with the big losses in this senior class, he's going to need job security while he rebuilds the program. Ten years is way more time than needed though. I wonder if the contract includes a decent buy-out clause. If it doesn't, he could still move to a new school pretty easily if something opens up down the road.

10 year contracts are so hilarious. You are still paying him nothing. Not a single thing is preventing a program from stealing him in the 2nd year of that 10 year contract. It is so pointless.

Depends on how the contract is written.
It almost certainly increases the amount Richmond would have to pay him if they fired him, and the cost of the security is probably a larger buy-out if he wants to leave.

I love it.
This League will never, ever get to a higher level until there is coaching stability that can impress recruits. CMack will stay. Majerus is not going to move again. Dunphy is a lifer st Temple. Martelli will be at St. Joes, unless they can't get it together again. Hopefully Major will get it together at Charlotte and Schmidt and Everhart can continue to build their programs.
I like Mooney- a lot. His teams run beautiful stuff. While we lament the additions of laSuck and F-M, Richmond is a great school in a nice market and has a very nice arena. It is good for the league.
I also like the fact that the coach at udump has a long term deal. You know.....for stability.

Richmond is a good job. Hopefully Mooney has decided that he likes it and wants to stay in exchange for some pretty good long-term security.
They'll stink next year, but there's no reason he can't build them right back up like he did in the first place.

I'm sure it is written like that. But it still isn't even an obstacle for a program he would considering leaving for to overcome.
This is good for Richmond, the A10, and Xavier. I like it.

No, you're right. It just gives Richmond more money when he eventually leaves.

Justin Harper, Kevin Smith and Dan Geriot were also seniors. I'm amazed that Mooney didn't take the easy way out and get out while the getting was good (although if Georgia Tech, Missouri, and NC State are the best jobs available, is that saying much?)

This is great news for Richmond, and I am happy for Mooney.
He has done a hell of a job so far.

Depends on the program. If Georgia Tech only has $1.5 mil to spend on its next coaching staff, then it would certainly be an obstacle for them.

Georgia Tech is going to hire Brian Gregory. They are now in the pathetic category as far as I am concerned until my children are graduating college.
