Similar to Gio Fontan, I'm not sure what Murray was expecting when he signed on in the first place.

Huh. I'm surprised he's transferring and not just heading to the NBA or some other pro venue.

He's good enough to play professionally somewhere in his future. But transferring basically sets that clock back by 2 years. No one doubts his NBA potential.

Sorry, smiley, but based upon what?
Gianinni is a horrble coach- in a dead heat with Kellogg at UMess for the worst in the A-10- and he has never given Murray any corrective discipline at all, but...
....If you mean Murray has D league professional potential, maybe. However, the pros are not impressed by a 6:11 guy who A) Only stands outside and wants to shoot 3's, B) Doesn't want to mix it up inside to do the rebounding dirty work, C) Fashions himself as a 6:11 point guard D) Just kind of selfishly jacks it up whenever the hell he wants. E) Was a part of a team that was wracked by dissenssion. Nothing spells "pro" like "bad teammate" and F) Thinks "defense" is a foreign word.
This guy is another in the line of "Darius Miles" AAU creation products- except without Miles' skills. There is nothing I have seen that tells me NBA.

He's still 6'11. Bob Knight used to say "You can't teach Height". Still time for him to right the ship and be a serviceable NBA Big Man. Look at the end of the NBA benches (a wrecked shipyard of College Big Man). Are you telling me he couldn't be a 12th man?

This is a huge loss for LaSalle.
They might suck out loud next year....

Murray was a top 50 recruit coming out of high school. How LaSalle got him to come there is beyond me. And why he went there is even stranger.
So Dayton's top 50 recruit transfers and LaSalle's does the same. Not good for the A-10.

Maybe they could work out a trade? Dayton sends Staten and his Dad to LaSalle for Murray and a new ice machine or something?

I believe it was grades and attitude. He's from Pennsyvania. I think a number of schools who were initially recruiting him cooled off quickly.

I've suggested about 768 new versions of the A-10 or some other new Conference for Xavier but I challenge you to find one quote from me suggesting that LaSalle should be "kicked out" of the A-10.
I have, on the other hand, often stated that there is little likelihood that the A-10 would ever kick any program out. I've also stated that a few programs currently in the A-10 would seeminly fit much better in another Conference due to their levels of commitment, facilities, etc.
You could call it semantics, but it's a bit more than that.

Aaric Murray is currently ranked #66 on the Chad Ford's draft list (#7 at his position), so yeah, he is an NBA prospect. He's not good enough to realistically enter the draft this year, but maybe under an actual good coach he can improve and be there in two years. The guy has a lot of potential but needs a coach that will get him in line and develop him.

I think TU is picking him up and they are both going to fly to Europe together. :D

Nick, I'll gladly do it: LOSS-AL SHOULD BE KICKED OUT OF THE A10. IT SHOULD BE DONE FIRMLY WITH NO EMOTION.
FORDHAM SHOULD BE KICKED OUT OF THE A10. IT SHOULD BE DONE IN AS SADISTIC FASHION AS POSSIBLE, IF FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN TO JAR ITS IDIOT PRESIDENT AND AD.
We'll eventually lose Charlotte. We very well could lose Temple.
Who knows what happens from there.

Some weekend transfer news… LaSalle’s Aaric Murray has apparently narrowed his choices down to either Kansas or West Virginia. The 6’10 sophomore averaged 15/8 last season in his second consecutive all-Big Five season for the Explorers. He will have to sit out the 2011-12 season, but would be well poised to step into a starting role at either school after Thomas Robinson and Kevin Jones move through their respective programs.

More on Murray:
With both Morris twins declaring for the NBA draft, Kansas is suddenly hurting on the interior. If the current roster stands, Bill Self will have only juniors Thomas Robinson and Jeff Withey alongside 6-foot-8 freshman Braeden Anderson in the post for next season. The Jayhawks will no doubt pursue other post options, including some freshmen and possibly JuCo transfers.
One name that has come up in recent days is that of LaSalle big man Aaric Murray. The 6-10 sophomore from Philadelphia has decided to leave his hometown, where he averaged 15.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game for the Explorers.
According to CBSSports.com's John Rothstein, Kansas must battle West Virginia for Murray's services. Murray came close to committing to West Virginia before he chose La Salle. He would be the heir apparent to Kevin Jones after sitting out a transfer year, but the sudden absence of size on the Kansas roster could make the Jayhawks a very attractive option as well. Murray would follow in the footsteps of other Philly giants like the Morris twins and Wilt Chamberlain should he take his game to Lawrence.
Bill Self will still need to find some depth inside for this season, but the situation may not be as dire as it looks. Recall that North Carolina lost a pair of towering twins to UCLA last season and still managed to cobble together a strong inside rotation.
Whether Murray is worth the wait is another question entirely. The Philadelphia Daily News had less-than-flattering commentary on Murray in a recent article, saying "La Salle coach John Giannini had a season-long struggle with Murray,” Jerardi wrote. “The mega-talent was not always interested in the game. In fact, Giannini said that Murray really does not like the sport. It often showed in Murray's performances. Murray had moments when he was great and other moments when he disappeared, sometimes in the same game. Giannini publicly defended his player, but anyone with eyes knew the coach was having a difficult time getting through to his star player.”
That said, the old saw is true: you can't coach height. Self already has a limited-use big man on his roster in Jeff Withey, but he'd certainly rather have two big bodies to work with rather than one or none.
If Murray is choosing between two taskmasters like Self and WVU's Bob Huggins, perhaps he knows he needs a kick in the seat of the pants. Give either of those future hall of fame coaches a year to mold a big man, and he'll either shape up or ship out permanently.

Get ready for an ass kicking Aaric. His stay at either place may be the shortest in history.
And if Kansas is looking for an "interior presence" they couldn't do any worse than Murray. The paint is the last place on the planet where that guy wants to be.
