Earn that salary Cal. Time to end the beaked ones season.

As fun as it is to mess with Matta, I am over it, and I recognize he is a f'n outstanding coach. I think he is a better coach than Cal. I do wish he had went to a traditional basketball school though. It is hard to ever totally forgive him when he coaches at O$U.

Ohio State will likely win, but I'm hoping Evil Blue can knock Evil Scarlet out of the tournament. Living in Columbus made me a Buckeye hater.

I voted for Kentucky because that would mean Ohio State loses now and Kentucky loses years later when this win is vacated.

I can't see any way that Kentucky can beat Ohio. I know it can happen, but I don't expect them to lose at all. I see them blowing past Carolina/Marquette as well.

The crazy thing is look at what happens is the seeds play out. Who does Ohio State have to play to win the national championship?

Kentucky
North Carolina
Duke
Kansas

Can you imagine a more brutal schedule? Are these not the biggest names in college basketball? They are #1 in the nation and the #1 seed of #1 seeds, and this is the path that they have in the Sweet 16? That is quite incredible.

I am rooting for Kentucky because they are the underdog, I grew up a Kentucky fan, and my eight year old could win the pool if the advance to the Final Four. Ok, mostly I am rooting for Kentucky because my boneheaded 8 year old picked them and if they win he could win some money, but I did grow up a Kentucky fan, and who doesn't like the underdog?

I see OSU walking away with this one though, and I despise Calipari. Tubby Smith was a respectable man. UK sacrificed their values and as we all know some day they will pay for it. Like who couldn't see that writing on the wall. Cheater.

Excellent game. After UK erased OSU's first lead, neither team ever led by more than 4.

Just heard that was Dave Lighty's last game. Feels like he was at OSU forever.

he must have started or gotten a lot of playing time as a freshman.

I'm sure Matta is starting to develop a rep as a bad tourney coach. I disagree. But I bet it's building.

well when u lose back to back sweet 16s as a 2seed and now an overall one seed....yes you are certainly not a good tournament coach

yeah, maybe it's fair.

But I do think year in year out the Big 10 is overrated, which has inflated the national media's perception of OSU (and their seeding).

That giant sucking sound is all the hot air disappearing from the blowhards that are the lemmings who follow Oh-ho-ho State.

No Luck-eyes this year and Sullinger, Diebler, Lighty and Lauderdale are gone.

The Little 11 is out of the Tourney.

Gawd, I feel sorry for the Proboscis.

.................Err, no I don't. Tee hee.:p

I can see what your saying and understand it- I just have a tough time calling a coach a bad tournament coach when he has coached in the National Championship

Not to mention his run here.

I love Chalmers, Sato, Doelman, etc... But they absurdly overachieved. Matta did something right during that run.

hmmm. what stuck in my mind was Chalmers, Myles, Sato, and Doelman playing great.

I'll take this one step farther. I've always said this, Matta is a GREAT recruiter but an average coach. Almost any time he goes against a team with comparable talent and a good coach, he will get out coached.

It happened against Duke in 2004 (Leaving Myles in to foul out...effing moron)

It happened in 2007 (Miller easily out coached him, Donovan Schooled him)

It happened last night. Their offense was based upon teams having to double Sullinger to create open 3 pt shots. Callipari saw that preparing for the game and decided that he'd play Sullinger straight up. Matta never adjusted. UK found ways to get open shots with good offensive movement and dribble penetration. tOSU just ran the same offense all night.

It's SO quiet. Can you hear that? Me either. All tOSU fans have finally shut up.

COMPLETELY agree! That team was underachieving all year until The Run. Many attribute The Run to Miller coaching up Chalmers. I give Matta very little credit for The Run.

All of those guys you just mentioned are making a ton of money playing basketball. They were good basketball players. They were a total team and Thad took advantage of it. But they were underachieving for the first 2 months of that season.

Are they really? I know Sato is making a hell of a lot...Wasn't sure what JD and Chalmers made. Do you have that on hand by any chance? I'll be honest and say I was surprised to see JD making a ton of money (anything over 100 Grand a year would be surprising to me)

So, let me get this straight. You are pointing to an Elite 8 game lost by 4 to Duke and the National Championship game lost by 9 to Florida that he is just an average coach and good recruiter? I don't know, its tough to lose by 4 to Coach K and claim he got "out coached" in my book.

And what about the games he coached to get to those spots? He was down 17 at halftime to Tennessee before making a comeback. He beat Louisville, Texas and Mississippi State. Not to mention the number 1 team in the country by 30 in the A-10 tournament.

I understand if you don't like him- but to call him a good recruiter and average coach is a bit ridiculous IMO.
