From Koch's blog:
"UC, which still has one scholarship to give, will likely award that to a junior college big man to replace Ibrahima Thomas on the front line.
One possibility is Nigeria native God’s Gifts Achiuwa, a 6-8 center from Erie Community College who averages 23.3 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots and is being heavily pursued by several Big East schools, including St. John’s."
God's Gifts? Uh, sounds very blasphemous to me.

I believe Gates already said he plans on returning next year. Of course last year Stephenson said the same thing then changed his mind, but I don't see Gates leaving early.

Yancy has said he is coming back next year. I know Yancy and his father fairly well, and have known them since Yancy transferred from Hughes to Withrow (my alma mater). One thing most people never knew, wanted to know, or wanted to believe is that even before Yancy made a college decision his goal was to graduate. No one in his family had ever had the opportunity to go to college or graduate from college and Yancy always stated his primary goal was to graduate, and also maintained he wanted to stay 4 years wherever he wound up. He is a great kid, and I wish him continued success.
As far as his pro prospects go, I think he needs some work on his post game but other parts of his game translate well. Contrary to what people want to believe about him Yancy has always been better facing up to the basket and scoring in the mid range. Part of that has to do with his one dimensional post game. He can really only turn and score to one side with his back to the basket in the post. Yes, he has a great body but any half decent coach can discover that on a scouting report, and render him essential ineffectual in the post. This problem is easily fixable, with a lot of practice and patience. The thing that makes him at least a decent NBA prospect are that his two biggest offensive strengths are the things that are missing in most NBA 4s. He is an excellent passer out of the post, and he has a relatively strong mid range jump shot. So basically going into his senior year he is the complete opposite of an NBA prospect as David West (granted not as good). West had the post game, but he didn't develop the passing and mid range until a year or two into his NBA career. So take that for what you will.

You didn't watch much of David his senior year did you? He was a much better player hitting the 15-21 footers and his passing was pretty good for a big guy. He shot 51% from the floor, 35% from 3 and improved his assist from 1.6 to 3.2 from his junior to senior year. The extra year really transformed David and he continued to improve once in the NBA.
