Probably one of the top 5 sites I visit these days, Blackburn Review cracks me up. These guys are unbiased, honest, and at least give credit where credit is due. I jumped to their site for the first time in a while, and I wanted to share the results. If this has already been posted, my apologies.

Is the source from Blackburn Review Brian Gregory's wife or an assistant coach? You have to wonder after reading this.

Christmas Comes Early
MARCH 28, 2011 TOM BLACKBURN
Yesterday around noon, we got word from a very knowledgeable source (who we wish all the best in Atlanta) that a team meeting was called for this morning. With the news that Chris Mooney signed a 10-year deal at Richmond, things were starting to look very favorable for us non-believers. Today, the news we've been waiting for finally broke out:

University of Dayton basketball coach Brian Gregory is leaving after eight years to become coach at Georgia Tech, replacing the fired Paul Hewitt.

Georgia Tech will hold a press conference at 5 p.m. to announce the hiring.

Gregory broke the news to the Flyers during what one player described as an emotional meeting at 7:30 a.m. today.

I'm sure the players were pumped to wake up early on a Monday morning to watch a grown man cry while telling them he was leaving the sinking ship behind.

Brian Gregory, you are gone and will soon be forgotten. You have left the University of Dayton basketball program in worse shape than you found it. I wish the Georgia Tech fans luck, they will need it.

More to come...http://www.blackburnreview.com/

ATL, are you a GTech fan at all? If you are not, you need to go to the first home game that Gregory has in all Xavier apparel and remind him that he cannot win in Cincinnati

...and then have a police escort to get out of the building

God no, I am from Athens, GA and got my Masters at UGA. I despise Tech. I would still go to a game in X gear. Wearing a Jimmy Carter mask. Hell, around here Jimmy may even be at the game!

Odds of Dayton winning the A10 just went up. They could play better ball without BG.

Blackburn Review also has the scoop on where Juwan Staten is headed--they are holding off till he announces it, but it sounds like they will get some sort of interview. That would be pretty awesome to get a tell-all interview about how live was in the UD program under Gregory.

Here's another one from the BBR called "UD students say farewell to Brian Gregory."

Anyone who wants to really believe that Jay Bilas knows wtf he's talking about needs to read the following Tweet:

Georgia Tech hired really good coach in Brian Gregory. He gets after it, and will do a really good job.

Wow! There are times when I wonder if Bilas actually watches any games that aren't on ESPN. And what is it exactly that Gregory has gotten after during his tenure at UD? Mediocrity. No one does a better job at striving for middle of the road basketball than that Brian Gregory fellow.

This reminds me of that old saying - better to keep your mouth shut and let people assume you're a fool, than to open your mouth and prove them right.

He automatically becomes a really good coach because he now coaches in the Big 6...he would say the same thing about me if I were hired at Providence after winning 1 game at NJIT

Did you see the talking heads on ESPNU this afternoon? I believe it was 5 or 6 of them who were slobbing on Gregory's knob about how "good he is" and how he "wins" and all that. Really, the guys over at Blackburn Review probably said it best, "I really want to know what they were thinking once they were off the air".
Seriously, ESPNU, get your $hit together. But thats why those 6 jabroni types were on that network, not the mainstay. Fail.

I had an interesting discussion with a Dayton fan at B-dubs today. I try to be cordial in person because I feel it's tough enough for them to look as success and not get pissed, and the last thing they need is victory firing down a rainstorm of winning from the mountain peak that Xavier sits upon.

Anywho, he was in a Dayton hoodie drinking a tall one, and I asked him if that beer was for "mourning or celebrating". His response was the latter. We went on a further discussion, where he repeatedly told me how he wished his program was like ours (no lie) and how he hates that he has so much respect of his biggest rival (also no lie).

We both agreed, however, the BG is a MUCH better recruiter and should be a lifetime assistant as opposed to EVER running a program.

The Blackburn Review is brilliant in many ways: informative, clever, funny, and with some obviously deep connections.

Oh, and you have to love how they drill Swampy on a regular basis and take pleasure doing it.

F the Blackburn Review. They are full of dayton ninnies and I don't think they have collectively ever seen a naked boobie live.

(I'm preemptively attacking now, before they get on the hype for the new loser to lead their supposed "program".)

I HATE dayton.

And I shook Jay-Z's hand, doesn't mean I can marry a Beyonce level woman or run a $450 million dollar empire.
Let's be real here, BG was Izzo's towel boy who happened to pay attention to the halftime speeches and game tape. Good recruiter? yes. Decent motivator? sure. Good head coach? bahahahaha.

You detected the sarcasm in in my comment I hope?

It's at the top of his resume anytime someone says why he is a "good coach": Once was an assistant to Tom Izzo.

It's quite pathetic.

Um yea, can I stop you though... You keep using this word "jabroni"... and... it's awesome! That's like the coolest word ever. Is that like a hockey thing?

Oh,yeah.

If you don't follow the Blackburn Review, you are missing out on high comedy.

Today's contribution to humor: From the mailbag:

Fan question:
“First-time, long-time. Love the pictures, hate the writing. Are you ever going to say anything positive about the University of Dayton and the Flyers?”

BR Answer:
Interesting question that probably deserves a more interesting answer than the one I’m about to give. Dayton students, alums, and locals have much to be proud about. There is …. well… you’ve got the…. You’ve totally got the First Four, right? And history. There’s a lot of history in UD basketball. Just as the modern-day Greeks should feel that they are above the rest of the world economically and militarily because of the earlier world domination, so should the Flyer Faithful feel positive about their basketball program. All those great NIT runs of yore have translated into a run of NITs over the past few years. Plus, let’s not forget the Indoor Atriums. You’ve got that too! I should say that the BR tries to be realistic, balancing hope with inevitable doom. Just like Rhianna must feel re-igniting her relationship with Chris Brown."

Indoor Atriums, of course, refers to the collapsiing floors in dump student housing that creates impressive basement to third floor open space. Hilarious.
