Ignoring the fact that (per ESPN's sos ranking, which goes back to '10-'11 season) has X rated an average of 42.7 SOS and SucKS rated an average of 66.2 SOS during that time period. Only one of those years did they have a SOS higher than X's. UC's TV deal, as we all know, is paltry. Sure, there are some buyout fees from the old conference churning in, and that helps a little. The Under Armor deal, in its first year, was heavy in equipment, light in cash. Let's hope that changes a bit, although we know new uniforms, shoes, and other equipment keep the student-athletes and recruits happy.

But even with all of this, the athletic department is still hemorrhaging money. The latest set of financial data shows that as of 2014, 46% of UC's athletic budget is subsidized from the general fund. And that's higher than any other "major" basketball school that Cronin's competing with. Add in the debt from Nippert Stadium's recent upgrade plus upcoming debt for a new Fifth Third Arena, and there just isn't any extra money lying around."

My wife and I met our daughter for lunch on Saturday at the Cock and Bull in Clifton. She is a freshman in the DAAP program (I know, I know). If Xavier had her program she would likely be a Muskie like my son. I had no idea UC was playing UConn and apparently not many in Clifton did either as the game was only on TV in the entire place and there were two people watching the game. I just though it was odd considering the Bearcats are a top 10 team. Maybe it was the start time or the location but there were less 20 people in the place.
