Actually, isn't the legendary infamous DePaul fiaso even worse.

I mean if 0-18 DePaul was in the tourney that would have meant they were the 16 seed. (Perhaps one of the first years the BEAST tourney expanded to invite all 16 teams, with the addition of double byes.

So #16 DePaul (0-18) would have played, what #9 Cincinnati on Tuesday at noon, which Cincy lost the game, and Lance lost his mind.
This year its what Winner of #16/#9 plays #8 Cincinnati on Wednesday at noon. So even though its still only one game, the argument could be made that the Bearcats at least get to soak in the MSG atmosphere for a full day before a potential early exit, and would thus be the 5th BEAST team eliminated.

I think the factor you're missing is that we got on UC fans for ONLY having the Big East argument both for themselves and against us, with nothing else to back it up. UC fans would use that lame excuse during all the years where we were clearly a superior team, saying that the reason they sucked is because they're conference is so incredible and the reason we were good was because ours sucked. I don't think any rational person ever argued that the Big East was a great conference all these years, even though it was vastly overrated by ESPN and others much of that time. I don't think this new Big East will be overrated by the media at all but that remains to be seen.

I am very much looking forward to these new rivalries again other good basketball schools. It should be a ton of fun.

Probably but only because USF crapped the bed in the last 3 minutes last weekend. Had UC ended up 8-10 in the BE instead of 9-9, I think the committee would have kept them out.

They only get in as an at large thanks to new conference mate Georgetown so pray that Gonzaga gets upset, XU wins the A10 and some NIT level teams win the BE, ACC, SEC and/or PAC 12. If NCAA locks win all of those conferences automatic bids, UC will get in even though they are clearly not a very good team.

in the middle it claims somebody challenged him saying that maybe coaches make too much money. He then went on a tirade about how he has to raise $250,000 a year just to keep his program up to shape, as if he is their personal fundraiser and how the Olympic sports really suffer. I like the line about how he started out making $800 and having to drive the team around in a car with no grill.

He's totally oblivious to the fact that conference realignment is what got UC in the Big East in the first place and it had nothing to do with their basketball program. Basically, as of now anyway, UC is right back where they were before conference realignment.

I don't mind when the Boeheim's, Thompson's, Calhoun's and other Big Esat old guard go on about about how sad it is, but the Big East their talking about has absolutely nothing to do with UC. When Syracuse announced they were leaving for the ACC, Boeheim commented that the Big East that SU was leaving wasn't the same Big East anymore; he was specifically refering to programs like SFla and UC.

Mick Cronin hands down is the biggest POS on the face of the earth; it's not even close. In today's economy, with so many bright and talented people looking for work, how this guy holds down a $1m+ job is beyond me.

UC lost because they have no post presence and they don't attack the basket. They also don't shoot very well. They also have Mick Cronin as their coach. McDermott shot 11 free throws because he attacks the basket and is aggressive, not because of the refs.

It might have been Hoard's angle. I have seen that play called both ways, but I didn't see a UC mugging on that one.

Nothing wrong with that article. I don't think the AAC is going to limit UC in basketball. That's going to be a pretty solid league, and UC was obviously at their best back in the C-USA and Great Midwest days. There's no reason UC basketball cannot be just fine in that league. It's really their football program that is taking it on the chin in this realignment.

I just love how UC fans act like they were so high and mighty in the Big East. In what 8 seasons in the Big East they were in the top half TWICE. For 6 seasons they finished 8th or worse (often worse) in the Big East. They make fun of La Salle and Fordham. But they were the Lasalle of their conference.

So last 8 seasons 1 sweet 16 and 3 NCAA tournament wins and they think they're the cream of the crop. Same time Period XU has 5 sweet 16s and 13 NCAA tournament victories. I know I'm preaching the choir but the just blantant lack for respect from UC fans is so annoying. "we own this city"

Campaigning implies an ongoing effort, not sitting back until the thing you want doesn't happen then whining about it. I think this is Mick's biggest problem. It's the same approach he has to trying to get seats filled. You have to woo people's opinion. You can cite all the facts, figures and results you want but opinions come from the heart, gut and soul of an individual, not the stats sheet.

New Mexico had a very efficient offense as well. But both of our losses have the same thing in common, a good low post threat. Any team with that will give us fits. While Jackson is a great shot blocker and a good defender, wide bodies like Stain cause him to get lost or trapped under the hoop so he is largely ineffective.

I think this is the biggest factor. According to KenPom (for those who believe in him) both Pittsburgh (#11) and Louisville(#20) have a higher rated AdjO than X (#22). New Mexico is close to X with a #27 AdjO. The big difference is Pitt and UL both have similar players to Jackson (Zanna is 6'9"/230 and Harrel is 6'8"/235) while UNM and X have the big bodies that give Jackson trouble (Bairstow 6'9"/250, Kirk 7'0"/245 and Stainbrook 6'10"/263).

In the UNM game Jackson had an ORtg of 96 and in the X game an ORtg of 44! Meanwhile, against Pitt he had an ORtg of 123 and against UL it was 99. Obviously the UL and UNM games are close but there is a pattern shown between the wins and losses against the four best teams they have played.

On my way to mass this morning, against my better judgement, I tuned in WLW Sportstalk with Broo thinking I might hear some respectable discussion about college basketball. Uh, no.

As usual, the SucKS honk media circles the wagons around a red herring...the Cronin/Valentine "incident", which had ZERO to do with the outcome of a horrible typical "old Big East" slugfest of a basketball game. There was no T issued so there was no advantage given. The correct call on the play was made.
